you silly man, we don't go to support groups to do arts, crafts, etc.....we go for support on situations we deal with concerning the lap band surgery.

Ummmm, I'm not a lap bander, but in the support groups i have gone to, in california and here in mitchell, there were guys there AND us ladies did NOT talk about arts and crafts, antiquing or any stuff like that.....we talked about our surgeries and any issues we are having with lossing weight....I hope you'll at least attend 1 support group and find out that they are not what you think

im not sure how they are i havent been to one yet but plan to attend the one here in pipestone on monday. I hope you can find something i think support outside is just as important as inside your own circle. I tried i just gave you the info.

On second thought, I don't know about support groups. Support from peers is great and all; but, you gotta admit, these kinds of support groups are probaly 90% married women. With guest speakers like plastic surgeons, and recipe book authors. No offense or nothing, but guys are different. We aren't really wired to hear about arts and crafts, antiquing, and stuff like that. So I dunno anymore, really.

I had LAP BAND 8/21/06 from Dr. Thaemert at the Surgical Institute from Avera McKennen. Dr. Thaemert was a personal recommendatin from one of his patients/my friend. I went to a LAP BAND seminar with Dr. OBrien in the fall of 2005, and I was not impressed. I have also heard stories of poor bedside manner. Tharemert was and is excellent!

I am going with Lap Band. I want to lose the weight slower and much more controlled. This gives your body the time to absorb some of the extra skin and so forth. Also just think. If I have a baby.. gain weight, when I want that baby weight to go away. I can get a fill. You don't have that option with RNY.
What insurance company do you have?
Also are you here in Sioux Falls?

Thanks Melanie, are you go with the lap band or the RNY? I was leaning Lap band but a relative of mine had the RNY and she thinks thats the way to go so now I'm not sure which but if I'm going to payout of pocket I'm leaning towards the lap band. I really highly doubt that my insurance company would pay for it. I wish they would even part but don't think so.
