Hi Sarah, My name is Maghan and I am thinking that you were in my nutrition class a few weeks ago. Am I right? Anyway there is a support group here in Rapid. It takes place at the hospital in the West Auditorium I beilieve and I think that both Dr. Cook (psych) and Dr. Sufficool (surgeon) attend them every once in awhile. I believe that they are the last Monday of every month at 7 ish...but let me check on that. I work at the hospital and I don't go bac****il Tuesday, but I will see the time and date for sure and let you know! Good luck!

Hi I am an AF wife and have just started the process of getting approved for GB. I am going to have it done at Ft. Collins, CO but I live at Ellsworth AFB. I was wondering does anyone know of a WLS support group in the Rapid City area? I have not found anyone that is aware of one and if not then anyone interested in starting one? Sarah

Congratulations! I know you were looking forward to the lap, but as a gny-lap succss story, I am happy for you. Pre surgery, I had to go through a phyc. eval., pre-op classes, blood work, and pulmonology (I have asthma). I started the process in April, by June 8, I was on the operating table. I am now 93 pounds thinner five months later. My asthma is almost nonexistant, my arthritis is still there but with the weight off it is much easier to deal with, I no longer have to take med for my acid reflux, and I feel soooooo much better. Post op was difficult, but manageable. I had to learn a whole new life style, a whole new eating style. It was more of a mind game than anything else...There was a lot of pain and bloating the first couple days in the hospital and at home, but nothing worse than childbirth. I also don't know how I should feel - am I sick, like all the other teachers at school, or is my pouch being grumpy. The hair loss has been a bit of a trial, but it only lasted a short while. Its already growing back. I have no regrets. None. It has been an exciting, scary trip. I am so glad you will be taking it too. If you'd like, you can email me at [email protected]. I will gladly visit with you anytime.

Hi! I am in the process of getting the Gastric Bypass done. I was going to have the lap banding done, but my insurance will not let me go out of the Rapid City area and if I do, I will be paying for it all out of my pocket. Anyway, I am having Dr. Sufficool perform my surgery (when it gets approved) and I am just wondering what to expect pre and post op. Any information would be great. Thanks!

Feeling great but struggling with eating/exercise. I'll get there with time and didn't expect to be magically "cured" but all the same...

Welcome, its good to hear you are doing well. Dr. O'Brien seems to be a good doctor. I had RNY with Dr. Graham June 8. Its been almost 90 lbs, and I am so happy with my surgery. Are you from the Sioux Falls area?
