Topic: RE: Should I have surgery??????
RuthAnn,
The last one I got to go to was Sept. 18 and then I haven't recieved notice of the others...it is usually the third Thursday of the month, which would be the 16th this month. I will check around and see if I can find out for sure. It is usually at 7 PM in the lower part of SV Hospital. I will let you know more when I know more. It has been very beneficial to me. When was your surgery, with who?

I agree with RuthAnn, this is a very personal decision that you have to make. Discuss how you feel with your hubby and family. Make a list of all of the pros and cons, then do a lot of talking - and praying. It is a major, life changing decision in all areas of life. I have no regrets and 5 months out, I am 90 pounds lighter. I started at 308 (although I was 316 at my heaviest), and was 303 on the day of surgery. I am now 211. My life has changed dramatically. While my arthritis is still bery painful, I can go a whole day and still be able to walk at the end of the day, which was impossible last year. I am also off of my acid reflux meds, sleep the whole night through without medicine to do so, and am no longer taking any asthma medicine. Life is good - even with some MAJOR personal set-backs that would have sent me to the refrig and the chocolate bars prior to surgery. Some days it is difficult - old habits die hard. There are all kinds of colds, etc. going around - and some days I'm not sure if I'm feeling ill due to sickness or surgery. If you decide to go for the surgery, let us know. I will be there for you, as many on this site will. Also, if you live in the SF area, I would personally be your support. We have support meetings at Sioux Valley Hospital every month and you are more than welcome to attend one of those. LOL...cyndi

Choosing to do surgery is something you have to decide......I choose surgery because I started having other medical issues...
it has been just under 7 months for me and i've lost 80 of the 135 i want to loose...good luck to you either way you choose

Topic: Should I have surgery??????
Ok- here it is!! I need your advice, help, thoughts & opinons!! I am 32 & almost 100 pounds overweigh!! I'm not huge- but I'm, not thin either!! I have been considering sugery for a couple years now. I am told by friends, co-workers & even my husband that I do not need surgery. Some say I don't look heavy & carry the extra weight well. Yeah- but I still feel yucky, tired & often have no energy. I keep saying that no one knows how it feels untill your in this spot! I have went to the seminars & all my Dr. appt. ect... it's just a matter of schedualing a date!! Here's the other catch- my insurance has denied me twice. The Dr. says I'm still a good canidate for surgery. I wound be paying for this with lots of cash up front - which is scary & costly!! I have a 2 year old little girl & down the road may want one more- but not totally sure! I want to just go for it- but I 'm not sure if I'm making the right choice!? I've tried all the diets, pills & even exercising- just like everyone else.I just feel I need a liitle help & I'm commited to changing my eating habbits & having a new life. Just don't know what the answer is??I need help & support?? Is the surgery
worht it & right for me????????? Sheri

Hi Sarah,
I'm on the other side of the state in SF so I don't know anything about groups in that area. I do know that this site is a wonderful source of support and welcome to it! Good luck with the approval process.
