Topic: please help me
Hi I am new to posting but have looked at other posts for a long time. I am looking into lap band surgery and have some questions that i hope someone can answer for me..my BMI is 40.7 and i have not even had a dr. visit yet (this friday tho). I would like to know if anyone has gone to dr haley in Mitchell..i don't even know what to tell my dr. . I have been thinking abouot this for over a year now and had lost 66 pounds with the aid of diet drugs but as soon as i had to go off the drug, the weight came back on..30 lbs in one year..the problem is i am afraid that my insurance will deny me because my BMI went down to 36 during the weight loss..i have no co-morbidities..except for the usual joint pain, insomnia etc. no high blood pressure, no diabetes..i need to know what you think my chances are of getting approved..my carrier is wellmark bcbs of sd. any tips will be appreciated as i really want to have thhis done and i dont want to do or say anything that might mess up my chances..i also would like to know what steps you go thru once you are approved..like pre-op diet and any other processes you can tell me about..thanks
Topic: 9 Month Post Op
Just wanted to do an update since I am so wonderful about doing that on here....RIGHT! Anyway Sept 5 was my 9 month mark I am down 115 and would like to lose another 30. I have developed a hernia, however it is nothing that we need to operate on right away so I can keep working on my goal weight and once I get there, I can have my hernia repaired and a TT done! yah. I did put up new pictures on my profile if you would like to take a look. Best of luck to everybody!

Topic: RE: Coffee or support groups
Rachael,
I actively go to the support group at Sanford Hospital the third Monday of each month...BUT I WOULD LOVE TO START A COFFEE GROUP WITH SUPPORT FRIENDS. I am out 15 months and am now half the woman I was when I started this adventure, literally. I started at 320 (highest weight I recorded before I stopped getting on the scale) and am now 153-156 (depending on the day and time of day). It is getting harder and would love to socialize with others who know how it is. It works for me any night after school (I teach) or most weekends. Just let me know when and where (we could even do halfway, like Flandreu or one of the small towns: Dell Rapids, or switch up Sioux Falls and Brookings...
Topic: Coffee or support groups
Hi all!
I just moved here from the minneapolis area. I am about 25 miles from brookings on the MN side. I am 6 months out from surgery and am really missing my coffee group from the cities. So I was wondering if anyone around here does one in brookings or sioux falls or if not... would anyone be interested in starting one with me :)
Thanks
Rachael
Topic: RE: I've been approved and I have a date!!
I've not been on the board lately, but am so excited for you. By the time you read this, you will be on the "losers" bench. I never thought I would be happy to be called a loser. Congratulations dear - I hope your surgery went well!
Topic: RE: Dont' know where to go best
If you are in and around Sioux Falls the third Monday of September, stop by Sanford (SVH) at 6:30 PM. They have an informational meeting that is terrific. It meets the third Monday of each month right before our WLS support group meets.
I had RNY with Dr. Graham. Do you have insurance. You'd be surprised - it may cover your WLS. I didn't think mine would, but Dr. Graham and his staff went to work for me and three months later, I was on the losing side. I'm now down over 150 lbs and have lost almost as much as I now currently weigh. My quality of life has increased 100 fold. I cannot begin to imagine my life without WLS.
Don't wait any longer...check out your options now. You owe yourself that much at least. After checking it out, you can make an informed decision. Good luck. I'll be thinking of you.
Topic: RE: test
Welcome....SD is a great site, we just don't always have a lot of activity. I guess we are too busy enjoying our new lives.
Topic: RE: 80-100 lbs to lose and self pay???
I didn't have the comorbalities, but had a much higher BMI. I was afraid insurance wouldn't cover, but Dr. Graham went to bat for me and got the surgery covered. I had RNY. I say what can hurt...go to a consult, check it out. If you have questions, Sanford Hospital (SV) has an informational meeting every month. It's the third Monday of the month at 6:30 PM downstairs. It is very interesting and informational.
