Ok...I don't know what happened with my post last night...but here it goes again!   I talked with Aurie from Dr. Obrien's office yesterday and I got my surgery date!!  June 26th for lap band.  Im really excited and nervous at the same time.  I've got a couple questions that Im hoping someone on here can help me with.   First,  has anyone been worried that they will never be able to eat their favorite foods again?  Im talking about shrimp, steak, chicken which all seem to be a problem going down for a lot of people on here with the band.  I know that this is a tool and I have to change my behaviors and eating habits...that's what it is about....but it will really suck if I can't eat anything that I like anymore:( Second, anyone been afraid that having the band will only be one more failure?  I have never been able to admit this to anyone...but I have never lost a single pound on a diet.  Period.  Im scared that I will do this with such hope and enthusiasm and then fail at it.  Anyone else been here? And, lastly...Aurie said that I will be on a two week liquid diet.  How in the heck did you all manage that?  What types of liquids are on the "ok" list for this two week period?  WOW...Im going to need some support with this!!  TWO WEEKS?   Finally, I really am excited to have this new tool and Im praying that I can make it work.  It has to work...I desperately need to improve my health.   Thanks so much everyone...in advance:) Christina

I did not have lap, but had GNY with Graham 2 years ago.  SOoooo- I won't be able to address your food questions, but you liquid diet and fear - both are normal for both surgeries.  I ate a lot of JELLO, so much that I can hardly tolerate it now.  Soup broth and flavored waters were also a constant.  I only did it for a week because my surgery was moved forward. I wish you the best.  It is a great tool, but only that and it still requires work on our part.  I've lost 160+ pounds but find old habits are hard to break.  I am working hard to make this tool work on a daily basis. Congratulations on your surgery. I wish you the best.

I was to have lap band on June 24th with Dr. Obrien, but my surgery date got moved because of my insurance co. waiting on my one year program before surgery approval.  So, my date is now July 24th.  I have the same worries as you do.  Even doing the 1200 calorie diet has been hard for me and I worry I won't be able to eat chocolate again.  But, we have to do this for our health and think of all the better things we will be able to do with our life.  Hang in there and I will be thinking of you and waiting to hear how you do.  I just pray my insurance will approve me. Take Care!

Countrygal, I will pray that your surgery gets approved.  I know it's hard to wait!   This 1200 calorie diet has been impossible for me.  I don't know why.  It seems like every diet I go on gets sabotaged in some way by myself.  I keep thinking...."i hope that after the band I will feel so full that I wont WANT to eat anymore".  Because even now if Im somewhat full, I can still find room for junk food while watching TV, etc.   Im putting my full faith in the band and praying.  I will be thinking of you as you wait.     Christina

Christina, Don't put all your faith in the band - but in yourself.  I've had several friends who've done the band - and the RNY.  After watching them, I decided the RNY was my best choice.  However, each his own.  You may, unforturnately, be able to eat many of the things you can now...you will need to use this tool wisely.   It is such a wonderful tool - WLS, but that is all it is.  I am thinking of you and praying for you.  Good luck.

Christina, Is your surgery in July or have you had yours already?  I will be having my surgery with Dr. Obrien on July 23rd.  I am starting my two week liquid diet tomorrow.  Lets stay in touch.

Country gal...Im having my surgery on Thurs. July 24th.  Did they tell you that you had to stay overnight in the hospital, too?  Funny if we ended up in the same room, huh?

Ive started my liquid diet one week ago today.  So far, I've lost 14 lbs.  Im really shocked.  I didn't think that I would be able to stay faithful to it.  So, now Im hoping that I can lose 28 lbs before surgery, since I've got a week left.

Im so excited now!

Cyndi,

thanks for all of your support.  I really appreciate it.  After beginning my liquid diet and staying completely faithful to it, I KNOW that I can use this tool as it was meant to be used.  If I can be hungry and manage to stay on this diet, I can use the band to help me feel fuller much quicker and eat healthier.  I've already lost 14 lbs and Im hoping to lose another 14 before surgery next week.
BTW...Thank you for your prayers during my grandfather's passing.  He was so Ill for so long, it was a blessing that he is now at peace.

thanks again.
