Hi Everyone I am new to the Obesity help and have a few questions. Wondering if anyone can give me some information. A little about me. I had the band put in in 2003 and had it removed in 2006 because of a slip. My weight is creaping back up again and am thinking about getting the rny this time. I would like to have something done before i gain all of my weight back. Am gaining each month. I am looking for a surgeon who has alot of experience and does the rny laproscopically instead of just open. My original surgeon was Dr. O'brien but he does not do the rny lap anymore. I think he is more into the banding now, or he will do the open rny not the lap. Much easier surgery I guess. If anyone has any info I would really appreciate it. Thanks

Dr. Harris @ Dakota Surgical Ltd. at Avera in Sioux Falls does laparoscopic RNY's. He's awesome! He's also a master at cleaning up after other surgeons' messes and specializes in revisions. -- JP

Hello! I had heard that Doctor Harris was outstanding, and my doctor referred me to him. When I called his office, they said that he does not perform laproscopic surgery. I definitely am interested in Laproscopic, so I just made an appointment with Dr. Thaemert for a first consultation. Do you think the person I talked to was wrong? Should I call them again? Thank you, -Mike-

He *does* perform laproscopic RNY procedures. I'm not sure why they told you that, but.... I know there's a new receptionist there. Maybe that's where the miscommunication occurred. -- JP

Dr. Graham is my surgeon...and I've researched many of the surgeons in our area. He really was the best I found...wonderful surgeon! He is associated with Sioux Valley and is in Dr. O'Brian's office. Dr. Graham specializes in the lap RNY. If you'd like more info, PM me in the OH or email me at [email protected].

Thanks everyone! I called back and they confirmed that Dr Harris does do laparoscopic. They're not sure why I was told otherwise, but that really doesn't matter. I will be going to Dr. Harris' first seminar on February 6th. Thanks for your input! Had I not posted here, I would never have checked back again with Dr. Harris, so I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it! -Mike-

Thanks Mike for the info. I am trying to find a surgeon in the Sioux Falls area also. I am thinking of either Dr. Harris or Dr. Graham. People seem to like both of them. I am not sure which one to go with . If anyone has any info about these surgeons or the cost of lap rny I would really appreciate it. I will be a self pay. So I am also a little curious on the costs also. CA

I haven't gotten to the price component yet, but it sounds like they are going to discuss all that at the seminar on the 6th. If there is any way you can get there, you should try to make it. If you go with Dr. Harris, is it required that you attend one of the sessions, so you would be getting that out of the way, and it sounds like we will get some good information. Hopefully I'll see you there. Let me know if you're going. We can say hello. -Mike-

Dr. Glatt of Surgical Associates at Sioux Valley Hospital did my lap RNY . He is wonderful and so accomodating for those from out of town. He will schedule your tests the day before surgery and your classes the same day as your initial appointment so that you don't have to make so many trips. I chose him because when I went to Sioux Valley's web page, he was the surgeon (that does WLS) with the most training in Laproscopic surgery. Kathy Drewitz
