Hi! I am in the process of getting the Gastric Bypass done. I was going to have the lap banding done, but my insurance will not let me go out of the Rapid City area and if I do, I will be paying for it all out of my pocket. Anyway, I am having Dr. Sufficool perform my surgery (when it gets approved) and I am just wondering what to expect pre and post op. Any information would be great. Thanks!
Congratulations! I know you were looking forward to the lap, but as a gny-lap succss story, I am happy for you. Pre surgery, I had to go through a phyc. eval., pre-op classes, blood work, and pulmonology (I have asthma). I started the process in April, by June 8, I was on the operating table. I am now 93 pounds thinner five months later. My asthma is almost nonexistant, my arthritis is still there but with the weight off it is much easier to deal with, I no longer have to take med for my acid reflux, and I feel soooooo much better.
Post op was difficult, but manageable. I had to learn a whole new life style, a whole new eating style. It was more of a mind game than anything else...There was a lot of pain and bloating the first couple days in the hospital and at home, but nothing worse than childbirth. I also don't know how I should feel - am I sick, like all the other teachers at school, or is my pouch being grumpy. The hair loss has been a bit of a trial, but it only lasted a short while. Its already growing back.
I have no regrets. None. It has been an exciting, scary trip. I am so glad you will be taking it too. If you'd like, you can email me at [email protected]. I will gladly visit with you anytime.
