I'm only a week out but I'm certainly happy with mine!
One thought - after RNY you can never take NSAIDS. Lots of people need that for arthritis - I believe some folks have gotten Medicare and other insurances to approve the Sleeve when their doctors were able to justify the ongoing need for NSAIDS which you can have with a Sleeve. Just a thought.
Course it will be a few months before Medicare recognizes them as a Center of Excellence but by the time you got all the medical justifications, it might just be a short wait!
I have a lot of friends who arehappy with their bands and RNY's. Most do have to deal with nausea, That is one thing so far I've been spared - they gave me something in preop, and I haven't been green once, not even when I had to drink that yucky gastrograffin for the upper GI. (And that wasn't as bad as I expected it to be either!)

Good to know! I went to the info class there and am just waiting til Medicare gets their act together and realizes that the sleeve is the best surgery!
Topic: RE: Moving to SC - questions (have Tricare Prime ins)
Thanks for the answer. Funny that it came today.
I've progressed along, received a referral for a surgeon in Columbia, had to attend a seminar before I could make an appointment and had an appointment for today. Upon reviewing all paperwork and making a phone call I discovered that I would have to pay a $500 "program fee" in order to use them. I couldn't find another surgeon in SC that was in the network. However, I did find one in Augusta that accepts Prime and doesn't have an extra $500 fee. Just the $100 dieticians fee. I can handle $100 but the 500 is just out of my reach right now.
We just moved to SC. This means that I'm jobless (but really looking) so extra money is not available at this time.
I was upset at first. Seemed like just another downward slope. But back up again once I found another surgeon and had Tricare change my referral. Just wish I didn't have to go so far to do this.
It'll all be worth it though in the end.
I have an appointment on the 9th. Should be able to have surgery about 3 weeks after that. I can't wait!

Tricare Prime is what I have and I was like approved in 24 from the time my paperwork was submitted they were no problem. I paid $30.00 for my total bill they paid the rest. Tricare Prime is great.

If you're in upstate SC and considering weight loss surgery with Dr, Jeff Chaudhary at St. Francis Eastside, I can tell you it has been a completely positive experience. The office staff is wonderful and supportive, and Dr. Chaudhary is awesome. I had my Gastric Sleeve done on Wednesday. It is Saturday. I've had very little pain, no nausea, and I certainly don't feel like I've had major surgery, I feel like I had excellent care at St. Francis Eastside and am very very happy with my experience.

I do not know the answer to the question, but they are very nice if you would like to call and check. I tried to call and did not get through, but I will try again later. If I get an answer I will post back. Support is so key, I need to go too. I will try to have an answer for you soon.
