Well BCBS no matter if state funded or not .Will not approve for the sleeve to get done. I was trying to get the sleeve and I was denied because it is Experimental! Now, I am waiting to get the Full gastric approved.
Topic: RE: SC State Employees To Get WLS As "Experiment"
I think this is a good motivation thing. Not everyone in South Carolina is obese due to eating habits. Can you imagine working at a Hospital that does the Surgery and you have people come in all the time to get the Surgery. The State Health plan does not cover WLS at ALL!! Not even if someone is trying to pay for it and have the isurance company help pay for it. Even if the have Co-morbibities it is beyond difficult for them to get it.

Saw this news mentioned on CNN earlier this a.m. SC is going to pay for RNY and band surgery for 100 of its obese state employees, on a FCFS basis, as of 1/1/11. The workers will then be tracked to see how well things go as far as their future health care costs:

BCBS is going to cover RNY or Lap Band for 100 state employees on a first come first serve basis in 2011.
Of course I was sleeved a week ago and paid completely out of pocket. Sigh. By the time this coverage takes affect, I will be 100 lbs down, so I'm going to say it was worth it!

Topic: RE: Advice needed, completely off the topic of weight loss
I don't know anything about the James Island Charter School, but as the parent of a gifted 13 year old, I know that if I lived in Charleston, he'd be at the Academic Magnet High school in North Charleston once he reached high school.
It's the top ranked academic magnet in the nation. Jame's Island is kind of a haul from there, but I certainly would NOT suggest living in N. Charleston.
Hope this helps!

Topic: Advice needed, completely off the topic of weight loss
Hi All,
Ok, so this is pretty off topic, but since I get most of my advice from this website's forums, I thought I would give it a shot and rely on the expertise of my fellow "losers". My family is considering moving to the Charleston area, I love the idea of James Island, but what do I know? Sound good, but... I have a 13 yr old daughter in an advanced magnet school outside of New Orleans, La - small and sheltered, but public. What school system would you recommend (all of Charleston). She will be entering high school. Would James Island Charter High School be appropriate or should I consider other areas, we will be visiting soon and I would like to narrow down a few ideas.
James Island appeals to me because the real estate market seems affordable, I love the closeness to downtown and the beach, the possibility of water front property, feels like Louisiana but is not.
Thanks for the advice!

Topic: RE: Moving to SC - questions (have Tricare Prime ins)
Thanks for the help ladies.
I'm going to try to find a support group in Columbia. My doctors office has a great support group but I really don't want to do the almost 2 hour drive to get there. Kinda the same with Aiken. I don't even know where it is, but I am hoping to find one that is at least within half an hour from me.
