Topic: Squaredance lessons, anyone? Greenville area
OK...I know it may sound dorky, but Western Style Square Dancing is fun and burns around 600 calories for 2 hours of dancing. A free introduction starts Thursday, August 28 and Thursday, September 4 at the Simpsonville recreation center (next to the police department)at 8pm. No dancing skills are needed and singles are welcome.

Topic: Walk From Obesity season is upon us and I need help
OOPS - after I pasted this post, I saw that someone had already put in the info about the upstate walk! Whoohooo.
Hello all!
At the end of September there are Walks From Obesity all over the Carolinas. I am participating in the one at Concord Mills Mall (it's where Dr. P is walking). I know that there is one the following week in Charlotte and another in Greenville, SC that same weekend. So if you can't make one, make another. If you wanna be on my team for Concord Mills Sept. 20 please Follow This Link to visit my personal web page. (If the link doesn't work, the team name is the five guppy co). If anyone else is on a team for the walks, please let us know and put your link out.
I am working to get an article put into the Fort Mill newspaper about the walks and those of us in the Fort Mill area who have been thru surgeries. If any of you would be willing to talk to a reporter, please send me a personal e-mail with your name and contact info - send it to robin.weber @ bww.com - I think that this would include folks who lived in the area an have moved or folks who had their surgeries elsewhere and then moved into the area.
Thanks guys!
hugs
Robin

Topic: RE: Anyone in SC have Vsg
Hi Marecye,
When I started out I only wanted the band. I saw a story on the VSG on tv and thought no way would I want to have part of my stomach taken out. What if something happened and I needed it. I definitely did not want my intestines rearranged.
Then I thought I was not going to be able to get it because of a problem with my stomach, I started researching my other options. After finding out more about the VSG (sleeve) I decided it really was the best option for me. People have been having this done for a long time due to other problems and as part of the DS.
The more I thought about all the followup with the band plus the "minor" complications that you usually have with the band, the more I thought the sleeve may be better for me. I really like the part where after your stomach heals, (about 6-8 weeks) there are very few complications. You eat more normally, just small amounts. Plus the part of the stomach where you normally have problems is gone.
Besides the chance of complications you have with any surgery, the most serious complication is of a leak. The doctors do a lot to minimize that risk. Because your stomach is cut and stapled it knits together like a cut in your arm. Once it heals it stays together. In the old version stomach staple surgery, your stomach does not knit together so they had a lot of problems with the staple line coming apart.
There is a lot of info and great people on the VSG Board. Do your research and make sure you make the choice that is right for you. Look at all the Surgery type boards as well as the regrets and complication boards.
I am scheduled for surgery next week with Dr Strickland. If there is anything I can do just PM me. Keep in touch and let me know what you decide. I mostly post on the VSG Board and the Main Board. There is not a lot that goes on on this one.
Hugs & Prayers
Rita
