Topic: Seeking Help w/ BCBS Denial of Reversal
Hello All,
I had a RNY in FL about 6 yrs ago- recently due to numerous complications I was advised by my surgeon to have a reversal. I very much agreed with him and set the date. Unfortunately, the night before BCBS of SC denied my request. I appealed and had my doctor to a one on one with the insurance director but was denied a second time. My policy says they will not cover any weight loss surgery or complications from any previous surgery. If I do self-pay the hospital wants $15,000 for a deposit and the surgeon wants $3,600 - I don't have this but seriously feel like I am dying. This is no longer a "weight" thing but a life or death issue. Does anybody have any experience with BCBS of SC -any and all advice will be appreciated. Thanks!

Congrats, you will have a lot of questions,
now that it is a sure bet. I was scared before my surgery, that's normal. As of today I am 100 pds, it is worth it. We are all here for you. The hospital is great, Dr B is the best, I just cannot say enought good things about him and his staff.

I got a home equity loan and paid for my doctors fee that he charged and later for my plastic surgery that the insurance wouldnt cover. It worked out great and the interest is tax deductible on the loan. Good luck with everything.

Well, I went today and talk to Dr. Ross. Next step is I have to go in tomorrow and get the endoscope down my throat. Not looking foward to that. Then I have to go to some class and do all the preop stuff. Not sure how much longer it's going to take.

Heike, Congrats...I remember when I was told I was approved I did my happy dance... Well, that my dr was approved...I have medicare and I had to wait on my Dr to become a center of excellance. But when I got that approval....I was jumping for joy...But the day I got the date was the Best....It made it real.....I will keep you in my prayers..

What a ride, and I am just at the beginning now! I was denied just a few days ago, but all my insurance has asked for was five years of documented weight and a TSH level (Thyroid). I called the Coordinator, Lisa, yesterday and she told me it was resend to the insurance (BC/BS of NC) on Monday. This morning she called........ I AM APPROVED!!!!!
Now peeps, am I alone? I got super excited, my heart was racing, I was extatic!!! Then I started thinking. Can I really do this? Is my family really going to be there for me in need? Will I be able to know what to do? My head is spinning!!! I KNOW I want, need, have to do this surgery ........ just crazy thoughts popping in my mind!
Well, now all that's standing in the way are the $1200. My part after insurance. Please join me in prayer that it will be available soon!!! I know God will provide!!!!!
