Topic: Any LAP or Realize Banders

I had the Realized Band surgery on Dec 2 and I live in Columbia SC. I was just wondering if anyone else on this forum had the band surgery?

I eat mostly plain old fashion oatmeal for breakfast, only because I got burned out on eggs, but I do eat cereal and usually eat regular Special K. I tried the protein one and it sucked for me and after reading every cereal label, I found the regular Special K isn't that much lower on protein than the nasty one. You can not eliminate carbs completely, your body needs them to function properly, but make sure you don't go over board with them. Most important, get your protein in everyday. Eating the same thing over and over will get you to where I got with eggs....hard to stomach the sight of them,  I'm sure the oatmeal is not far behind the eggs, lol.
If in doubt about what you should be eating, call Dr. Bours office and talk to a nutritionist.

An answer to your gym question...I was told to wait until my 3 month post op appointment.  I joined a gym earlier last month and the gym owner refused to let me work anything other than the treadmill without talking to Katie.  She told them that 3 months out was fine...but no sooner.

Good luck!  Oh...thanks Barbara for the advise.

The group mainly talked about recognizing the dangers of emotional eating.  it was good.  that night time monster gets me too.   Try to make sure what you are eating at night is protein not carbs...watch the crackers.   the more carbs you eat the more you want.   I have started trying to go to sleep earlier.   around 9:30 is when it hits me   so last night I went out to Wally World  seeing it stays open all night.  I just walked around looking at stuff and reading labels for about 1 hour came home and got ready for bed....so I didn't eat last night.  but when I break down and eat I grab a piece of beef jerky or turkey jerky and it's protein.  and takes a long time to chew

I'll try to answer both of you   Cereal  is not good for us because of all of the carbs....I usually eat a protein bar for breakfast or a boiled egg.  try to stay away from things that are high in carbs.....or the carb monster will get you ....

Working out in a gym  I think it's okay if you don't have a drain in and you do it gradually.  Don't go in all gun ho and hurt your self.  I went to YMCA  Sat and me and my hubby did the water arobics and boy it lasted 1 hour and it wore me out and I am so sore today...next time I will know to do 30 min and work my way up......If you are gonna do weights and stuff take it easy.....

hope this helps   I am 10 months out.....

Sorry, can't be too much help.  I am 2 months post op today, and don't have the answer you need.  But maybe you can answer a question for me.  When are we cleared to join a gym?  So far I am walking 3 miles a day at least 6 days a week outside, because I feel like a hampster on a wheel if I use a treadmill.   I feel I am ready for some weight machines, but forgot to ask the gym question when I was last at Dr. Bours.  Thanks

I am so bummed that I missed this one because I really needed it.  I was stuck at the hospital emerency room with my mom all day Tuesday.  So...what advise did she give to tackle it?  I've found that although I don't get hungry at all during the day...I do at night.  Usually I'll grab about 4 mini pretzels or 3 saltines with a smudge of peanut butter on them.  Or a glass of 1% milk.

Take care, guys!

Hey guys!

I have a question ...mostly for Dr. Bour's patients.  Basically because we are all pretty much on the same routine.  Are we allowed to have any type of boxed cereal?  I am soooo tired of oatmeal and grits.  I thought about plain Cherios, but I'm not sure.  I bought a small trial size bag of the protein cereal  from the nutrition store...it was terrible.  Tasted like flavored cardboard and it turned to mush before I finished it.

I am almost 4 months out (on Feb 14th).  I have lost a total of 57 pounds since surgery and have 20 to go.  Dr. Scott told me that I was far ahead of the game.  He asked if I was starving myself (lol).  I went from a size 22 to a 10.

Anyway, just wanted to know about the cereal.  What types of things are you guys eating or snacking on that's not "bad".  I am so bummed that I missed Dr. Calhoun's "Emotional Eating" topic last week.  I really needed to attend that one.

Take care and any advise will be appreciated.
