question about iron
THE ONLY TIME WE NEED IRON IS IF YOUR DOCTOR TELLS YOU TO TAKE IT. YOU CAN OVERDOSE ON IRON VERY EASILY SO DON'T SELF-MEDICATE WITH IRON. GET BLOOD WORK DONE WITH YOUR DOC. MOST POST OPS DON'T HAVE TO TAKE IRON ALTHOUGH IT IS ONE OF THE 1st THINGS ADDED WHEN EXHAUSTION IS AN ISSUE, OR WHEN YOU HAVE A PARTICULARLY HEAVY MENSTRUAL FLOW THAT ZAPS YOUR IRON LEVELS.
A GOOD GASTRIC-BYPASS FORMULATED VITAMIN/MINERAL SUPPLEMENT, SUBLINGUAL B-12 OR B-12 SHOTS & CALCIUM ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL BYPASS PATIENTS FOR LIFE.
EVERYTHING ELSE IS BASED ON HEALTH NEEDS, MS BECKY ...
I take iron twice a week, only because my Doctor told me to take it. I should take it everyday, but I talked to my Dr. and he said twice a week is better than what I was doing. If you have low iron, and your pre-op labs showed it was low, then you should take it everyday. If your Dr. hasn't said take iron, then don't take it at all.
