WELL, THERE'S GOOD NEWS & SOME CHALLENGING NEWS FROM MS SHANNON. MS BRITTY SPOKE WITH HER THIS MORNING. THE GOOD NEWS FIRST ... HER DRAIN WAS REMOVED WITH NO PROBLEMS ... &, WE ALLLLLLLLL KNOW HOW FANTASTIC WE FEEL WHEN THAT THING IS GONE. THERE IS SOME QUAGULATED (sp?) BLOOD AT THE DRAIN SITE WHERE SHE HAD BEEN BLEEDING PREVIOUSLY. BUT, NOT TO WORRY; HER BODY WILL REABSORB IT WITH NO PROBLEM. THERE ARE NO BLOOD CLOTS OR ANY OTHER ISSUES THAT COULD CAUSE HER PROBLEMS, THANK GOD! BUT, MS SHANNON HAD TO RETURN TO THE HOSPITAL AS SHE WAS HAVING TROUBLE BREATHING. COME TO FIND OUT, BOTH LUNGS HAD COLLAPSED. DR BYRNE SAID THAT THIS IS QUITE COMMON AMONG WLSurgery PATIENTS. SHE'S HOME NOW & THROUGHOUT THE DAY, SHE HAS TO DO DEEP BREATHING EXERCISES TO REINFLATE HER LUNGS. DOC SAID THAT IF SHE'S WATCHING TV, THEN WHENEVER THE COMMERCIALS COME ON, HE WANTS HER DOING HER DEEP BREATHING AT THAT TIME. HER BEST FRIEND, JASON, HAS STUCK BY HER SIDE & TAKEN HER BACK & FORTH TO THE DOCTOR & HELPED CARE FOR HER ... KUDOS TO MR JASON!

Please tell Ms Shannon that I was gonna call her today, but since she is feeling so poorly, I'll wait ... Give me a call tomorrow, Ms Britt & let me know how she is doing & what Dr B says. If she feels better, I'll chit chat with her then. We send our prayers & hope her recouperation is quick & with no further challenges.

Thanks for the update Dawn! I'm sure Shannon will be fine and on her way to many posts about her weight loss really soon. As some of you know...I had wls (vbg) 16yrs. ago and my left lung collapsed. But I've never heard of both collapsing at the same time. I think they must not collapse completely ...it's probably a partial collapse. Anywho I had to do the breathing exercises after "open" surgery ... yep that was painful. I'm hoping if I do those exercises this entire month prior to surgery I'll have a better outcome. *Have any idea what muscles you use to inhale deeply and blow out as hard and fast as you can? TRY IT !! And keep in mind I will be having "OPEN" surgery again..uggh !!

Yeah, for some reason they had her use the Spirometer in the hospital as usual, but didn't send it home with her ... I still have mine in my bathroom closet ... I used it for about a week after I got home until I was up & walkin' around good.

Boy, Ms. Shannon is way too young to be having so many problems....I know her youth will bring her through this, but I also know how hard it is. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. Thanks for keeping us updated. Susann

That's what she needs ... Your caring thoughts & prayers! Her age is to her benefit, that's for sure! I need to call her & see how she's progressing.
