Okay, I have a question. I've had my drain in for 2 weeks now, and it comes out Thursday - not a day too soon!!!!! Did anyone else's absolutely hurt them like crazy the last few days it was in? I'm not talking about little pains, I'm talking "i'm sitting here typing this and near tears" pain. I'm so ready for this thing to come out!!! On a lighter note, it was great seeing some of you at the post-op meeting last night!!!! Brooke PS: I need an angel......anyone interested?

I did not have my drain in that long, but I will tell you this, I felt so much better after it was removed. I just did not feel right with it in. I am so sorry you are having a tough time with the drain. Hang in there Thursday is less than 2 days away. It will be here before you know it. Have you called your surgeon to see if they can take it out sooner because of the pain. Just an idea. I hope you feel better soon. Hugs Julie

Is there any redness or swelling around the tube? I had a slight infection and LOTS of pain. I just called my surgeon and they called in an antibiotic. Good luck Mary

Brooke, Sorry to hear that your drain is causing you so much pain ...I hope it's not infected. Are you gonna be able to make it till Thursday hurting like that? Katie's in surgery today...but if you call in, they will leave her a message to call you...and she will. It was great to put faces with names last night and awesome sharing Brooke, Darling, why do you need an angel??? Tonya

The kind of pain you are describing could indicate an infection, so you should call your surgeon immediately. *** LISTEN UP LADIES & GENTS *** If you have excessive pain, reddness, distressing symptoms of any kind, don't "suffer with it" ... Call you surgeon's office immediately. You just came through risky surgery & your entire digestive track has been rerouted ... You have tons of staples across long cut lines ... This is no time to ignore symptoms or be a hero. This surgery is in it's near infancy & we only have an idea of all the possible complications, so always err on the side of caution & protect yourself ... Call your surgeon!!!!!!!!!!! If he/she is not responsive, call your primary physician & tell him/her of your concerns. BUT, GET HELP/ANSWERS QUICKLY! Infections, strictures, hernias, kidney & gall bladder stones ... All sorts of serious issues can be causing your distress. You are in a weakened condition from the stress of the surgery itself, from the lack of nutrients & proteins ... from the severe restriction of calories ... so, take extra special care of yourself & make that call. You aren't bothering anyone but you may just be saving yourself needless suffering & worse complications!

Thanks for the responses, everyone! The surgical tech looked at my drain site last night, and said that it looked good. She said it's pretty normal for it to really start bothering you the last couple of days. I'm ready for Thursday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good for you for getting it checked out, Ms Brooke!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was the safest & wisest course of action! We're so glad she didn't see any problems. I am soooooooo glad my surgeon removes them quickly (within days of leaving the hospital), but each surgeon has valid reasons for why & when they remove them. Sorry you have to suffer a few more days. YEAH for this Thursday!
