Protein, Protein, Protein... what to do?
Hi Friends!
I am feeling overwhelmed with Protein suggestions and it seems like some of the costs are prohibitive.
I went to GNC and I got Women's Ultra Mega Multivitamin, Biotin 2500, and Papaya Enzyme. I talked about the Protein with the clerk, who was really very helpful, and he recommended Isopure. It was 50 mg of Protein in a 22 day supply for $51.99.
Is that about average or is that a little high-priced? I held off on getting it until I could get the opinions of my friends on here who have been-there-done-that.
I have always been a really big supporter of high protein diets, so I am hoping to glean some wisdom from y'all without getting further overwhelmed. In your own experience, what do you find is the greatest bargain for a high-protein supplement?

Hi christine, how are you ? I would have held off too on the isopure.I tried the isopure the liquid one for like 2.00 and it was sooooo nasty. You should just go around and find samples first before buying something like that.Because your taste for things will change.Go to bariatriceating.com they have protein samples you can try for $1 and some change.Good luck
Christine, As far as buying all those things from GNC, you can always go to Wal-Mart and get the same stuff for ALOT less expensive. After surgery I took the Flintstone chewables and once I ran out of those I take Centrum. I do take the GNC sublingual B-12, and I use the GNC protein powder (Chocolate Caramel and French Vanilla). They are more expensive on the protein, but that's what I like and I not willing to change right now. I know it is overwhelming but I promise it will all work itself out. Good luck with your surgery, if you need anything call 532-4602.
Hugs,
Britt
GNC has some kind of frequent-buyers club (or something along those line, not positive what it's called) and you can get some % off of what you buy. I use Isopure powder in Vanilla and it's all I can stand the taste of. They have a sampler box with several different flavors in it, but I like the vanilla so I've never tried any of the other ones. If you have the same thing I do, it lasts me longer than 22 days- I have 2 scoops a day, one in each smoothie, and it lasts me at least a month.
Hope this helps!
Rebecca
Hi Christina,
I work at the Vitamin Shoppe on Ashley phosphate and Rivers. We have the Isopure for 40.95. You would only use one scoop at a time therefore getting 44 servings not 22. 50 grams of protein at once is alot. We also have a protein that has been my favorite since early out and that is Nectar. It comes in several fruit flavors and is more like juice. It has 23 grams of protein, 90 calories and 0 carbs. My favorite is the Fuzzy Navel. These run $26.97 for 36 servings. Also if you ever get anything from us that your pouch absolutely hates,or just doesn't work for you, bring it back and you can exchange it. The Biotin and papaya are fine, but i think the women's ultra mega vitamin is timed release and may not be the best option post-op. If you would like to come in and visit I,or any of the other staff, would be happy to help you. They pretty much know from me what works best for us and what our basic needs are. Multi, calcium, and protein. We also have tons of other proteins that other post-ops like. I'm off Tuesday and Thursday this week but should be there the rest of the week.
Good Luck Friday!!!

I get the protein from Wal-Mart. Less than $15 and has 20g protein per scoop. I use it to beef up some of the shakes that in the back of the booklet we get from MUSC. I also have a Sam's card and have gotten Calcium Citrate tablets, 400 of them for like $7. The vitamins selection is not that great for chewable but a little cheaper. If you need to go, I will be more than happy to take you as my guest.
Hugs
