WHAT TO EXPECT FOR PRE OPP
Hi Becky...
Preop can be a long day...but what lies on the other side is well worth it.
Basically you are preregistering for your upcoming surgery.
They will ask your name and other personal info...like birth date, religeous preference and what type of surgery you are scheduled for...who your surgeon is, and so on...
You'll sign a bunch of paper work.
They'll ask if you have a Living Will or Medical Power of Attorney...if so the will copy those documents for your records.
They will make sure that you have coverage for surgery...find out deductables...your cost if any, etc.
You'll have blood work to do.
You will meet with the Anesthesiologist...He might ask you some questions, like if you're allergic to any meds...if you smoke...if you have ever had a problem going under anesthesia...things like that.
It really is uneventful...a little tedious...but uneventful
Basically it allows you to not have to deal with all this stuff the day of your surgery.
I hope this helps.

Hi Becky!
Like with all doctor and hospital visits, I suppose it differs with where you go, as well as with unique health issues that one may have. My day was longer than I anticipated, however I do have a couple of conditions that require extra attention.
You should expect to have the following done- blood work, EKG, registration, interview with a nurse or surgical team member, anesthesia consult, a physical by your surgeon, and possibly a chest x-ray. (I had one done, though I have never had one for past surgeries- it is a precaution to check for any pneumonia or lung inflammation)
There are some great lists of questions to ask your surgeon, posted by other members here. Be sure to ask anything that is on your mind- they do not consider any question silly.
Hope this helps! Let's keep each other in prayer and I'll see you on the losing side!
