Is it normal to be so tired?
YES MA'AM, VERY, VERY NORMAL. 1st OFF, WHAT TYPE OF VITAMINS/MINERALS ARE YOU ON? IF YOU'RE NOT ON A SPECIALLY-FORMULATED BRAND JUST FOR GASTRIC BYPASS PATIENTS, I'D SUGGEST YOU TRY THEM ... OPTISOURCE FROM WALGREENS IS A CHEWABLE YOU TAKE 4 TIMES A DAY & IS VERY EASY ON YOUR POUCH ... A GOOD ONE TO START WITH. I WAS ON FLINTSTONES COMPLETE 4 TIMES A DAY & SO EXHAUSTED 4 MONTHS POST OP THAT I WENT TO SEE MY SURGEON. A MONTH AFTER TAKING THE OPTISOURCE, I'M 50-70% BETTER ... MUCH MORE ENERGY.
I'M NOW GONNA TRY VISTA VITAMINS WITH CHELATED MINERALS, WHICH IS PORPORTED TO BE EVEN STRONGER THAN OPTISOURCE TO SEE IF I REGAIN EVEN MORE ENERGY. I'LL POST IF I SEE A MARKED IMPROVEMENT.
YOU HAVE TO REALIZE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAD YOUR SURGERY LAP INSTEAD OF OPEN ... THE AMOUNT OF MAJOR SURGERY YOU JUST WENT THROUGH WAS MASSIVE. WE DON'T REALIZE IT BECAUSE WITH LAP, YOU ONLY SEE LITTLE ITTY, BITTY HOLES, NOT A HUGE INCESION. BUT, YOUR ENTIRE DIGESTIVE TRACK HAS BEEN RE-ROUTED WITH HUGE CUTS INSIDE THAT WILL TAKE ABOUT 3 MONTHS TO ENTIRELY HEAL, SO YOUR BODY HAS TO DIVERT ENERGY & NUTRITION TO THE HEALING PROCESS.
ALSO, YOU NO LONGER HAVE THAT QUICK ENERGY SOURCE FROM SUGAR (THANK GOD!) SO WHEN YOU TIRE, YOU CAN'T DRINK A SODA OR GRAB A CANDY BAR FOR SOME INSTANT ENERGY.
THE LAST PART IS THAT YOU ARE ON SUCH LIMITED CALORIES (ENERGY SOURCE) & LIMITED PROTEIN (THE PRODUCT YOUR BODY USES TO HEAL & BUILD HEALTHY MUSCLES), SOOOOOOOO IT'S NO WONDER YOU ARE EXHAUSTED.
TRY THE OPTISOURCE VITAMINS/MINERALS.
TRY FOR AROUND 75 - 100 GRAMS OF PROTEIN A DAY TO GIVE YOUR BODY ENOUGH PROTEIN TO HEAL WITH LESS STRESS.
YOU SHOULD BE AROUND 600-700 CALORIES DAILY BY NOW ... MAYBE 800.
&, BE SURE TO DRINK YOUR FLUIDS ... 64 OUNCES AT THE LEAST UP TO 100 OUNCES A DAY TO FLUSH THE TOXINS OUT OF YOUR SYSTEM WHICH WILL TIRE YOU AS WELL IF THEY STAY IN YOUR SYSTEM.
IF YOUR BODY SAY IT NEEDS REST, LISTEN TO IT & REST ... IF YOU DON'T, YOU WILL CRASH BIG TIME DOWN THE ROAD!
ALSO, MAKE SURE NOTHING ELSE IS GOING ON LIKE AN INFECTION OR VIRUS. IF THIS EXHAUSTION CONTINUES, YOU MAY WANT TO GET SOME LABS DONE WITH YOUR PRIMARY DOCTOR JUST TO MAKE SURE YOU DON'T HAVE A LOW GRADE INFECTION.
THIS JOURNEY MAY APPEAR TO BE EASY, BUT IT IS VERY HARD ON YOUR BODY (& EMOTIONS) & IT WILL TAKE A GOOD 3-6 MONTHS TO REALLY, REALLY, REALLY FEEL FANTASTIC. SO, AS MUCH AS WE WANT TO RUSH ALONG, TAKE IT EASY & REALIZE THAT YOU HAVE JUST BEEN HIT BY A MACK TRUCK MEDICALLY SPEAKING! TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF WITH AS MUCH CARE & ATTENTION AS YOU WOULD IF YOU WERE CARING FOR SOMEONE ELSE WHO JUST HAD MAJOR SURGERY.
GOD BLESS YOU
DAWN & NICK

Linda...
What you're experiencing is NORMAL!!! I'm going through the same thing.
I have days when I feel like I could run a marathon...then days when just taking a shower seems like chore.
Ms Dawn, once again...ha**** the nail on the head. If you follow her advice you can't go wrong. The main thing is you're not alone, so rest
when you need to...and it will get better.

My doctor told me that though this surgery is often the best thing we could ever do for ourselves and brings about positive changes, it is also a tremendous insult to our bodies. We should listen to what our bodies are telling us and be gentle with ourselves. As long as you are taking your vitamins and supplements and getting your fluids and protein, you're okay. Most of us go through this and end up at the doctor. It's alarming, because we're just bopping along and it's like we hit a wall. Try to be patient. It's hard, but it will pass. The inevitable stalls will pass too. Just stick to the program If you feel that something is wrong, certainly check with your doctor or nutritionist. You may need to tweak your diet. You are in this for the long run. You're doing great and you'll be fine!!

Lady D,

I was wondering if the Optisource chewables were ok right after post-op? I am scheduled for surgery on the 28th, of this month and i haven't got anything yet, as far as supplement or vitamns. Seems a little over welming, for me. I did go to the Walgreens site and looked up the OPtisource and the first ingredient was sugar
. Does it settle well in yor tummy?
Thanks,
Chell
