Hello everyone, I had my surgery January 14th 2005, and have lost 70lbs. I have 5 more till my goal weight. I can't seem to lose it though. I guess I'll just have to keep trying. Here is my question, My husband and I are thinking of relocating to the Carolina's. I was hoping that maybe some of my fellow bansters could help me with some idea's of areas that might interest us. We are looking for some golf courses, some culture, some places to have fun, and some warmer weather. I would appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks so much Harriet Kelley

Harriet, welcome to the SC section of OH. I have lived many years in SC. Columbia is central to many things and i find that to be a great asset ( 3 hrs from the beach.....or 2 1/2 hrs from the mountains.......Columbia is growing and is VERY HUMID though in the heat of summer. The lowcountry Beaufort, SC area is also great. Close to the coast and close to Savannah, Ga etc. And as many of these ladies wil tell you, Charleston, SC is very great. Amazing history, beaches too and a fun fun place

Hey Harriet, I am a Realtor!!! and a Christian, and I live in Charleston SC. I love it here, it is close to the beach, great world reknown hospital, Medical University of SC, and one of the top surgeons in the world to follow up with! MUSC was also just made a Center of Excellence too. If you email me, I will send you a relocation package that has tons of info. You can also search my website at www.Homes-Charleston.com We have warm weather, golf, theater, shopping, lots to do! Plus, we are close to Myrtle Beach for great discount shopping...although we are getting an outlet mall here too, and also Hilton Head and Columbia, close to everything! Good luck with your decision, this is our 2nd time living here, and my husband is retiring from the Air Force and we are staying put! Take care, and God Bless, Deborah Schueler

Hello Harriet... I am a native of Charleston. And even though when I was younger, I could not wait to leave Charleston, I soon learned there is no place like it. And came home immediately. Charleston is full of everything you are looking for. We are getting ready for Spoleto USA. It is a huge, and I mean HUGE, arts festival at the end of May. People from all over the country and world come to it. But there is stuff that goes on all year round. The golf courses are also well known. The best, from what I hear, are on Kiawah and Seabrook Island. We of course have the beach, some a little more commercialized than others. We are a big tourist destination. We have the Market downtown, that is 3-4 blocks of Lowcountry arts and crafts. I could go on and on, I think I am starting to sound like a tourist commercial. If you want to know any more, please feel free to contact me as well. Julie

Hi Harriet! I agree that Charleston is a wonderful place with lots to do! We visit on a regular basis as I have family down there. However, I will put in a plug for the Upstate of SC otherwise known as "God's Country". I live in Greenville County.Simpsonville is I don't golf but there are several nice courses around here. For entertainment and culture check out Downtown Greenville, the Peace Center and the Bilo Center. We are at the base of the mountains... from downtown you can be on the BlueRidge Parkway in about 1/2 hour. We are nowhere near the beach(about a four hour drive) but we are two hours from Atlanta! Hot in the summer, we had a fairly mild winter this year but sometimes we get a dusting of snow, but we do not have the super high level of humidity that you will find other parts of our beautiful state. Bottomline... no matter where you chose you can't go wrong! Beautiful places and smiling faces! What more could you ask for? Take care, Leisa

Hi Harriet - I grew up in the Chicago area, but have now lived in South Carolina for 25 years - half my life. I would definitely recommend the Charleston area. I love it here, and it has everything you're looking for. The weather alone will hook you. We made our first visit here in the dead of Winter, and that was it. Charleston has so much charm and personality with her history and Southern hospitality and cuisine. There's so much to see and do - great golf courses, beautiful beaches, and we're a day's trip from the mountains, Savannah, Florida, Atlanta, Myrtle Beach, just so many places. Deb can send you some great information, being in real estate, and if you do relocate here, we have a terrific bypass support group. I am an artist and there is great support for the Arts in Charleston - lots of galleries, the Spoleto Festival, the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition, the symphony, ballet, theatre, music venues. There are beautiful plantations, gardens, and parks. It is just gorgeous here in the Spring when everything is blooming. There's fishing and boating, all water sports, whether lake or ocean, and hunting, if you like that. You can find anything from high society to fishing camps within a short drive. Now you've gotten me all excited and I want to go do something. It's a beautiful day here and I've been kind of cooped up lately. Can you tell? Good luck with your decision and congratulations on your success! Barbara

South Carolina is wonderful. Charleston is very nice. Simpsonville is a great community. I have lived in Simpsonville. I visit Charleston often. Now live in Longs just outside of Myrtle Beach, SC. I really dont think you can go wrong with a place to live. Myrtle Beach is a Golfers dream. And the housing is still affordable but not for long as the market has been on fire with new people moving in. Go 15-20 minutes from the beach and it is countryside.
