Edisto Island/Beach vacation???

Hi! I'm thinking of going to Edisto Island this summer staying at The Fairfield Ocean Ridge resort. Can anyone give me feedback on the resort or area? We have two boys...8 and 10, plan to do day trips to Savannah, Charleston and Myrtle Beach. Any idea how far Myrtle Beach is away? Thanks for your help! Peggy Naperville, Il. 301/196

Edisto is one of my favorite places ever. It is not commercial, no hotels or huge resorts, mostly rental houses. Fairfield is very nice and well kept. The golf course is beautiful if you golf. Its about 45 minutes to Chas., 90 minutes to Savannah, probably 3 hours to Myrtle Beach. There's lots for the kids to do in Charleston. We have a grea****er Park called Whirling Waters. On the Island its great swimming at low tide (very rough at high tide with a bad current), lots of great shells, and lots of shark teeth on the beach. There one Burger King, one grocery store, and some wonderful seafood restaurants. Your boys will love the Pavilion, with games and a dock. Crabbing is great. Just go to the edge of the marches with a chicken neck, string, and a net, and you will get a ton of blue crabs. There is a state park with activites for the kids, a alligator zoo, and kayak or canoe tours. If you bring or rent bikes, you can ride almost everywhere. Thanks for the feedback. We wanted someplace that was relaxing yet driveable distance to Savannah. Crabbing sounds fun! I was hearing mixed reviews on the Fairfield there...so was concerned. Thanks for your feedback! Peggy

May has missed her calling. She should be in the tourism business! I couldn't have put it better. I grew up in the Chicago burbs and have lived live in the Charleston area for 25 years. You will love it down here. There is so much to see and do and it's just beautiful.
