Does anyone have any advise as to what I should do to prepare for surgery? I am just twiddling my thumbs!!! I feel like I should be doing SOMETHING!

Personally I spent too much time trying to eat my "last of everything" LOL . I would try to start walking a little just so it will be easier to start walking. Good luck, I'm so excited for you. This surgery will change your life in the best ways every Mary

Yeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaah Lauren...I'm so happy for you. I started on protein shakes before my surgery...my nutritionist said it would help with healing...and IT DID!!! I had an open RNY 3 weeks ago, but you would never know it. If you can stomach the taste, the protein shake should be low in sugar and fat. I would also start walking...even if it's just 5-10 min at a time...this will benefit you too. If you smoke, QUIT...I did...the better our oxygen flow, the better our healing. Also these things help to prepare us mentally for the journey we are about to begin...they really helped me...I felt I really went into my surgery prepared. I'll be praying that your surgery be uneventful and you recovery will be quick and strong Hugs, Tonya

Thanks Tonya!!! How long did you quit smoking before your surgery? Tomorrow is my "quit date." Dr. Byrne told me 30 days before my surgery, and surgery is the 31st of March. So I figure Feb. 28th is a good day. What do you think? Tks, Lauren

Lauren...Perfect timing...30 days out seems to be the magic number. Are you going "cold turkey"? I used Nicaderm CQ...only had to use the patches for about 3 days, then it was easier for me to just go "cold turkey". Whatever you do, STOP...after all it's about being healthy...no need to turn into a lean mean sexy machine if we're still puffin like a chimney Girlfriend I'm soooooooooo excited for you...keep posting and let me know how you're coming along...I know you can do it !!! Smooches , Tonya

IF YOU CAN, TRY TO BEGIN EATING LESS SUGAR & FAT & TRIM YOUR CALORIES JUST A BIT. IF YOU CAN LOSE ABOUT 10 #s RIGHT BEFORE SURGERY, THIS HELPS REMOVE THE FAT FROM YOUR LIVER & MAKES IT EASIER FOR YOUR SURGEON TO PERFORM THE PROCEDURE & EASIER ON YOU IN THE SURGERY. OTHER THAN QUITTING SMOKING ... DRINK LOTS OF FLUIDS TO CLEANSE THE TOXINS OUT OF YOUR SYSTEM. GET SOME APPROPRIATE FOODS & PROTEIN PRODUCTS & LIQUIDS IN YOUR CUPBOARDS ... THEN, SIT BACK & ENJOY. OH YEAH, COME JOIN US ON THURSDAY EVENINGS AT CJ's ON ASHLEY PHOSPHATE FOR OUR LCBBuddies SUPPORT GROUP. WE'RE A LOT OF FUN & WE'D LOVE TO GET TO KNOW YOU! GOD BLESS DAWN & NICK
