was just wondering if you all knew when it was "safe" to have fresh (raw) fruits and veggies. I LOVE salads and cucumbers and tomatoes and was wondering if you guys knew when it was OK?

I tried lettace and cucumbers without the peel about four weeks out, but I chewed and chewed and chewed. The less sweet fruits were okay, but pineapple and oranges make me dump. Good Luck!!! Mary

I am almost 5 months out, and I love salads and fresh fruit...now. I love eating salads with chicken on them, but if it is "thick" chicken I can't eat a lot of it. I started eating grapes about one month ago and apples, no skin, about 2 months ago with pnut butter on them. Eat slowly and chew well. Grapes are my favorite now, and pineapple too. Its amazing how sweet these things are now. They are my new desert. I would say 3 months out is okay if you go slowly and test one and see how you feel abou 15 min. later. Take care, and post your results! Deb

SALADS ARE HARD TO DIGEST SO GIVE YOURSELF NOOOOOO LESSSSS THAN A MONTH, MAYBE A LITTLE MORE, MS CHASTITY ... DEPENDING ON HOW WELL YOUR POUCH HAS BEEN ACTING ... SOFT TEXTURED FRUITS ARE EASIER BUT START WITH JUST A BITE OR 2 OF ONE THING TO MAKE SURE YOU DON'T DUMP ON THE ADDED SUGAR OF FRUIT. THE EASIEST I FOUND TO DIGEST WAS MANDARIN ORANGES ... I'M 12 WEEKS OUT & HAVEN'T TRIED A SALAD YET, BUT I HAVE EATEN COOKED/STEAMED VEGES & HAVE DONE VERY WELL ON THEM. GOD BLESS DAWN & NICK

JUST HAPPENED TO THIN****BURG LETTUCE IS THE WORST TO DIGEST & HAS NO NUTRITIONAL VALUE. IF YOU CAN GET THOSE BAGS OF READY-MADE SALADS WITH THE NUTRITIOUS GREENS & VARITIES OF LETTUCE IN THEM, AT LEAST YOU WOULDN'T BE EATING FOR ABSOLUTELY NO HEALTH BENEFIT LIKE WITH THE ICEBURG. GOD BLESS DAWN & NICK

My surgeon (Dr. Bour) makes us follow a diet timetable... He says 2-3 months after surgery you may begin to try uncooked veggies and fresh soft ripened fruits as tolerated. Avoid tough veggies with large seeds, stalks, or hulls...and as Dawn said make choices that will give you the most nutrition. Tonya
