GOD BLESS DAWN & NICK PS: YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO REMIND ME OF 2 THINGS FROM LAST NIGHT'S MEETING ... 1 WAS THE NAME OF THAT PROTEIN BAR YOU GET AT THE VITAMIN SHOPPE SO I CAN TRY IT ... UH-DAUHHH, WHAT WAS THE 2nd ONE?

I just wrote Dr. Little who Dr. Byrne had asked us to write. I did not use Dr. Byrne's name, but I did say I had my surgery at MUSC. Here is the letter Dr. Byrne wrote me back: "Deborah, This letter is great. However I would prefer if my name was left out of it for various conflict of interest reasons. MUSC is not yet a center of excellence so we can't put that in either. I think it would be fine to say that you had your surgery at MUSC and had no complications etc. Also the specific area to target is the SC State Health Plan which is administered by BCBS who advise the state budgert and control board on what should be covered. Let me know what you think. KB" Please let us use this as a guide to write. I have changed my letters to the BCBS and SC State Health Plan, and the Congressmen and Senators to not include Dr. Byrne's name and that we are not yet a Center of Excellence...which MUSC should be soon. Thanks Deborah

Thank you for posting this. I am with the state health plan and I was denied this week. I've been down ever since I was told that I have no chance with my insurance, but I have not given up. I'm going to write all that I can and I am going to have others write as well. You have given me hope again.

DON'T EVER GIVE UP ON SOMETHING OF IMPORTANCE IN YOUR LIFE, MS CARMEN ... ESPECIALLY WITH SOMETHING LIKE WLS THAT WILL HAVE SUCH A POSITIVE IMPACT NOT ONLY ON YOUR HEALTH, BUT IN ALL AREAS OF YOUR LIFE. THE REALLY IMPORTANT ISSUES IN LIFE SOMETIMES SEEM TO TAKE SOME REAL EFFORT TO GET TO, BUT YOU'LL NEVER REGRET REFUSING TO GIVE UP. YOU WILL REGRET WHAT YOU LOST BY GIVING UP! SO GOOOOOOOOO, MS CARMEN ... WE'LL PRAY FOR YOU & YOU KEEP TRYING. THE DOORS WILL OPEN SOMEWHERE. LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT DAVID, WHO IS IN OUR LCBBuddies GROUP ... HE WAS DENIED NOT ONCE, NOT TWICE, BUT THREE TIMES & POSTED THAT HE WAS READY TO GIVE UP ... MAN, I GAVE A PEP TALK LIKE MAD. HE SAID THAT WITHIN NO TIME & FOR NO OBVIOUS REASON, HIS INSURANCE COMPANY REVERSED ITSELF & APPROVED HIM. HE'S SINCE HAD THE SURGERY & IS DOING WONDERFULLY. GOD BLESS DAWN & NICK

I am so happy I could help one person! I know after much prayer, I feel called to be an advocate for those who need help with their approvals. I had TriCare, and I don't know how I can help, but I want to help anyway I can. I will write letters, make phone calls, do whatever it takes to get the word out that it is unacceptable to have one more person die due to insurance denial that will save lives. If someone wants this surgery it should be THEIR choice, not the insurance company's. As long as they meet the criteria, they should have the option for surgery to be covered regardless of the hoops and barrels these companies put up for us to jump through. I am now researching info about the State Health Plan so I can find out more to help those people who need it. Please let me know what you know or info that you have, phone numbers, addresses, names,etc... Good Luck to all of you!! God Bless you!! < Deborah
