CHECK OUT SOME OF THE OTHER MESSAGE BOARDS LIKE THE "LIGHTWEIGHTS" & "HEAVYWEIGHTS". I'VE SEEN MESSAGES ON THEM ABOUT SELF-PAY PATIENTS. GO TO ... http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/messageboard/postdetail/1476446.html?vc=0 TO FIND THE OTHER MESSAGE BOARD ADDRESSES. GOD BLESS ... DAWN & NICK

AS FAR AS I KNOW, THE DIFFERENT TRI CARE POLICIES ARE MILITARY-RELATED, MS KRISTIE. I DON'T THINK IT IS AVAILABLE TO CIVILIANS. IF ANYONE KNOWS DIFFERENT, PLEASE CORRECT ME. UNFORTUNATELY, SELF-PAY SEEMS TO BE FOR THE WEALTHY; YOU MAY BE ABLE TO MAKE DEAL FOR A DISCOUNT, BUT DR BYRNE JUST TOLD US THAT AT MUSC A LAP RNY STARTS AT $38,646.00 & AN OPEN RNY STARTS AT $36,544.00 I'VE TALKED TO SOME LADIES & THE AVERAGE IS RUNNING $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 IN THIS AREA. IF THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAS A CONTRACT WITH THE HOSPITAL, THE INSURANCE PAYS ONLY ABOUT 1/3 OF THAT COST & 2/3 IS WRITTEN OFF BY THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE THE INSURANCE COMPANY IS OBLIGATED TO SEND ALL THEIR INSURED CLIENTS TO IN NETWORK HOSPITALS/DOCTORS. LOTS OF PATIENTS MEANS LOWER PAY OUT PER INSURED PATIENT. HOPE THIS HELPS ... GOD BLESS ... DAWN & NICK

I was at the lecture at Spartanburg Regional with Dr. Ross on Wednesday. Self pay is approximately: $5000 to the surgeon $20000 to the hospital and an additional $2000 for professional fees (radiology, anesthesia, etc.) Hope this helps Dianne
