I have been treated for bipolar disorder for many years. I have been very stable with my medication for quite some time. I do notice that when my weight is lower I seem to be very stable and rarely have major mood changes. When I am heavier, I seem to gravitate to a more depressed state. I found out the surgeon I wanted will not accept me because I am bipolar. He feels that it isnt worth the risk becase of his previous experience with bipolar patients. I know a great deal about bipolar disorder. I also know that you cant group bipolar patients into a category like you do apples. Each case is different. I need to know that there is still hope for me. Can anyone please help???

Who in the world is the doctor? I cannot say for sure, but i think you should just find another doctor. This must be that doctors rule of thumb! If i was you, go to the main message board and post this, and you should see that there are many people that are bipolar and were able to have WLS. Don't be discouraged yet!!! Let's do some researching FIRst Hang in there, we're here for ya

Thank you so much for your reply. I will admit I felt so defeated last night. I feel a bit better now that I have talked to several people. I am going to do as you suggested and post my question on the main message board. I would like to see just how many have had this road block (if any) and how they are doing now.
