Help - frustrated with insurance

I have been researching and thinking about surgery for a long time. I am now ready to do it and am coming on stumbling blocks. In 2002 I went through a fast program and managed to lose 100 lbs. Problem is, I have gained it back and more. That has been my story since I was a teenager - and every time I gain a little more back. I know this is everyone's problem and am hoping for some words of wisdom. Now to the heart of my problem. I have an appointment next Thursday with the surgeons at MUSC. I was told I had to have been unsuccessful with a doctor's program and thought the above was enough, along with my statement from my PCP. I understand now that they want the doctor monitored diet to be within 1 year. Well, if I could go on a doctor's diet and lose weight and keep it off, I wouldn't need surgery. Any words of wisdom? My insurance is CIGNA PPO.

Cigna is a tough nut to crack. Over at yahoogroups.com there is a cigna squeakywheels group for those who are fighting cigna. From what I understand they are VERY tough. Good luck!
