Four Days Post Op

Hi all. I am having an awesome experience so far with my Gastric Bypass. It was performed on monday by Dr. Morgan at MUSC. She is a cute little thing. Hard to believe her 5'3 frame can cut into all of us larger people. Surgery started at 8 I was in my hospital room at 1pm everything went fine. I woke up in good spirits and little pain. I did notice I had three IV lines. One was an ART line that they put into my artery to get my true blood pressure reading. I guess I was fluctuating quite a bit. The other two were regular lines. The one in my left arm was proving to be difficult so they removed that one and kept the one in my right arm. I was up and out of the bed by 5pm. I did the Incentive Spirometer religiously. I only had to use my PCA pump a couple of times. That JP drain gave me a little bit of trouble because it would get caught on things. I didn't really feel bothered by the Foley. Being a nurse I was hoping I never had to have one. They took it out the next day. I was up walking around. They did my swallow study and everything came out good. I got to drink my yummy fruit juices. Some proved to be too sweet, but I did it. I was discharged that same day at 4pm. I had my post op appointment today and I am down 10 lbs in four days. Can you imagine? Four days I am down. I am so happy. I pulled an internal muscle with one of those "phantom sneezes" and wasn't able to hold myself properly. Ouch did that hurt. I am cleared to go back to work on Monday and I can even drive. I could go back tomorrow she said, but I think I will use the rest of my allotted time. I LOVE IT! I am so happy I did this!

I am SO happy for you and to hear you are doing so well.I had my open RNY May 4,2004 w/Dr. Byrne. I have had no problems at all. Dr. Morgan checked in on me during my hospital stay and she was by far my favorite as far as bedside manner. She was so sweet and cute...if I am not mistaken I think she was pregnant at the time.
