I heard from a patient of Dr. Sabback's that he has had his surgery privileges suspended because a gastric bypass patient of his died at Trident Regional Medical Center yesterday. I was told that the suspension is for 3 months. This sounds kind of odd to me. Has anyone else heard this? Thanks, Nancy

Hey Stacy, What my friend told me was this: Another friend of hers (a person I don't know) was supposed to have gastric bypass surgery yesterday, Feb.9th, at Trident Hospital. Dr. Sabback was to do the surgery. This friend called my friend and told her that her surgery had been cancelled and that Dr. Sabback had his privileges suspended because a gastric bypass surgery patient had died on Feb. 8th or close to that date. That's all she told me. But on searching the OH boards and posting on the main board, a fellow OH member found this post for me: http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/messageboard/postdetail/1031941.html?vc=0 Hope you get the answers you need!! Good Luck, Nancy

No this is not true. Dr. Sabback's priveledges HAVE NOT been suspended at Trident Hospital. The hospital administration has made this decision based purely on finances. He is still performing general surgeries and endoscopies at Trident as usual. The hospital has put only gastric bypasses on hold for 90 days and will evaluate the program at that time. Questions?
