Looking for a surgeon...
I am posting this for a friend of mine who is wanting to have surgery...
"Hi, I am a 46 old woman who has been over-weight my whole life. I currently have a BMI of 35.5 and growing...I am looking for a doctor in the Rock Hill, SC area who will perform the RNY surgery. I have pains in my back and knees, especially when standing for long periods of time (which is a required job function). Please help, I am desperate to lose this weight. I have been on every diet in the world and nothing seems to work. My friend has lost an enormous amount of weight and looks great. I have two young boys who I would like to be around for 15 years from now. Someone, please help me!!!!!"
If anyone has any suggestions of surgeons, please let me know. Thank you for your help!!
Hello. My doctor is from Conway, SC. Sorry that I can't help with that part of the state. This website has lists of bariatric surgons in your area though. I just wanted to wish you good luck. I am 3 months post-op and have lost 80 lbs. I am down from a size 28+ to a size 22. I just want you to understand this surgery and be prepared for ANYTHING! I would do this surgery again, but I had a long row to hoe to get here. Do the research and know what a LIFE CHANGING experience this will be for you. I don't think I was aware of the emotional part of the surgery. I went through depression, self-pity, and a few other emotions I don't really know how to describe. BE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD SUPPORT SYSTEM!!! Take care, and I wish you only the best in the future.
hey, I am 4 days post op, I had laproscopic rny on 1-11-05. I just got home from the hospital today. My doctor is in Spartanburg, not too far away, his name is Paul Ross, his phone is 864-560-7070. I am feeling a bit rough right now, so this might not be the best time for me to give you a review of this surgery, but here goes. First of all, Dr. Ross is the nicest man you ever want to meet. He listened to me, took me seriously, made me feel important, and not just another fat person wanting a quick fix. He is young, and has done about 200 of these procedures since he started last year. He was very upfront about complications, will scare the bejesus out of you to be honest..haha....he has lost 2 patients since he started, because I asked. One lady had a stroke on the operating table, which had nothing to do with the surgery, she would have probably had one if she'd have had her gallbladder out. The other was a man that he said would not follow his instructions. I think he even told me that he had to go back and redo some of the surgery because the man would eat right. He has had 3 patients develop blood clots, but 2 of them had a history of blood clots, the other one didn't, but all three were treated and are fine now. I am still a bit tired and very sore, can't rest well yet, but I'm on no pain meds now at all. I will be glad to keep you updated on my progress if you like. My email address is [email protected], feel free to ask me anything.
Hi Michelle,
I am still pre-op but have been approved - awaiting a date. My Surgeon will be Dr. Strickland at Riverside Surgical / Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, SC.
Like the doc mentioned in another post, Dr Strick will also scare the 'bejesus' out of you. The first thing he said is "you CAN die from this surgery". I already knew that but I have to admit, it made a big impression hearing it from his lips. Then he continued by lifting my spirits to an all time high. We talked about the surgery and its benefits. He's very experienced, kind, well educated, has a great compassionate staff, and (if I may say so) is quite handsome.
I've met or talked to more than 30 people that have had surgery by him and his partner Dr Givens. They are all walking, talking, living proof that if you are willing to do what it takes - these docs are with you all the way.
As for the risks - Both surgeons are present for every surgery. As you've been told, some folks will develop blood clots. These guys insert a filter to combat that issue. (0 deaths to clots since they started using the filters) Leaks - they're going to happen from time to time but these guys are very prompt in testing for leaks and act immediately when needed. The facilty they use, Lexington Medical Center has a whole wing dedicated to this surgery. The staff is specially trained to handle the delicate needs of obese patients. State of the art equipment, a wealth of education and accredidations, safety precautions that many other surgeons do not implement. Those are the things that attracted me to this practice.
I am looking forward to being on the LOSING SIDE! I'm proud to say Dr Strick and his team are going to be the vehicle for that transformation. Give them a call. Make plans to visit one of their seminars. You'll be gald you did.
E-mail me for their address and phone number if you're interested.
Have a blessed and safe WLS journey. See you on the other side.
I live in Rock Hill and had surgery in March. Dr. Borhanian was my Dr. and I will recommend him and his partner Dr. Espinal highly. I have lost 160 lbs so far and feel better than I have in years. They are very careful with thier surgery, do it in tandam, and have a very high sucess rate.

Hello, My name is Tim. I had my surgery in Rock Hill. I used Rock Hill Surgical Associates. And my Dr was Dr. Theis. I had my surgery in October and I'm down 115 lbs so far. You can contact Dr. Theis by calling 803-324-5256. Ask for Rhonda. She will schedule you for an information session. And you can learn all about it then. I couldnt be happier with my surgery or with the Drs and staff there. Good luck.
