Has anyone who has switched to MUSC Options this year been approved yet? I went to my Primary Physician today and they are writing the letter requesting a referral to the Surgeon for the RNY. I am just wondering if anyone else is starting this process yet this year?

Hi Patti, I don't have an answer to your question but I wanted to welcome you to obesityhelp.com. I wish you the best of luck. I had the surgery on October 13, 2004 and it was the absolute best thing I have ever done. I just got my profile updated today. Check it out if you have a chance. If there's any questions that you have, pllease let me know and I'll do my best to help you out. Good luck!!!

I have MUSC Options also. I haven't seen my PCP yet. I am considering either Dr. Byrne from MUSC or Dr. Sabback from Trident as my surgeon. Who is your PCP? Thanks. Nancy

Dr Sabback at Trident is best, my personal opinion. He has been doing the surgery for 27 yrs, and is always using the newest techniques to enhance it. Also he puts a band the stomach exit to the small intestine to further help in weight loss because this causes the stomach to sty and feel full longer and the food does not pass as quickly.I had mine done by him on Aug 3 and on Jan 3 I was down 100 pounds. And I am an amputee in a wheelchair, so exercise is very limited to me..especially the walking part. He is awesome, a very caring man, and not in it for the money. Niecy

Patti, I have MUSC Options and had the surgery on 12/01/04. They approved me in about a week with no hassles what-so-ever. My human resource director told me that Options is the only insurer in our network that will be covering this surgery in 2005. Everyone else (so she said) has dropped it completely. I checked into details after 01/05 because I suspected I might be changing jobs and didn't know what my surgery date would be at the time. Hope this helps you. Good luck! Bonnie Mac 232/193/130
