I have had a lot of gas and grumbling in my stomach. When I sit on the toilet I just pass gas. No stool. It is hard to pass gass when I am laying or sitting down. Is that normal?(5days post) The last time I was on the toilet I opened my stomach tube and got some drainage. Clear with a little dark tinge to it. Is that normal? I have been very tired. When I get up and move around I feel better. I have been getting my fluids ok, thanks to my wife. I got about 60grams of protein so far today. It is hard work. I think the protein is the main reason for the gas.....but I know I need it. Well if any comments pleasepost. Thanks Mike Broughton

i had a lot of gas in the days following my RNY but eventually you should have a BM. I feel tired too and my surgery was 12-14-2004 . Dr. Byrne told me that feeling tired at first is normal. He pulled my drain out a couple of weeks ago but the drainage was clear with a pink tinge before. Hope this helps. Sandy

Just checking back to see how you are doing now. I feel alot better. I went back to work today. It is actually alot easier to keep track of my fluids while I was at work since I constantly need to know what time it is. No strenuos labor involved thank God. Did o****il about 4:00. Got a little weak and tired. But not bad for 1 week post-op I guess. The healing seems to be going good. I get around 70 gms of protein almost every day. Sometimes more. Sometimes I need to put it in through the g-tube. But what the heck, this week is about healing. Still sipping through the day and eating Jello, broth all that stuff. But I have learned to augment through the tube. At first it was kind of weird but no big deal now. Ok, done rambling, getting tired. Bed time! Thanks again Mike

Hi Michael, The gas will pass soon. Some of it is from the gas they use to inflate your stomach so they can operate lap instead of open. The more you move around the more it will help and so will Gas X. I used Gas X, the chewable ones to help with this. It is better that the gas is coming out instead of building up inside of you. Mine started to diminish around week 2. I hope you feel better soon. Lisa
