Tomorrow (Dec 27) is it!
Hard to believe that its here. I go in tomorrow morning at 8:30 and my surgery is at 10:30. I wanted to thank everyone that posts here. It has been a great comfort to come and read about your experiences and get advice. Thank you. I know the next few weeks will be rough but I am ready. I know I will live longer for my family after this surgery and will be able to do things with them that would not be possible for a morbidly obese person. My kid's ages are 10, 8, and 4. I have alot of coaching left to do, which is what I enjoy so much. Now I can teach my players to be strong happy young girls and set a good example for them at the same time. My son (8) will not have to defend me when kids say that I am fat. I hate that. My wife will be able to walk into a room with an attractive, healthy man and not feel like people are saying (bad) things. She doesn't really care though. Shes great. I know she will do a great job of taking care of me after the surgery.
Again thanks to all of you and if you have any last second advice feel free to e-mail me.

Hi Michael
Congrats on your surgery. How are you feeling? I am going to see Dr. Saaback on 1/14/05 at 1:30 to discuss having the surgery. I live in Goose Creek with my husband and 4 kids. I know exactly how you feel when you said that now your son won't have to defend you when someone calls you fat. I can't wait to get to the point when I can play with my kids without getting tired.
Again, Congrats on the surgery.
Wendy
Congratulations on taking the first step. Its all down hill now. I just can't put into words how much better I feel. My sleep apnea is gone already. If I don't lose another pound my life is 10 times better. Speaking of weight loss....yesterday was my 2 week post op visit. I have lost over 20 lbs and I feel great. Sometimes I have a down time when I get a little weak but thats normal in the beginning. The best thing you can do, and I advise you to bring your husband if you can get a sitter, is come to the support group meeting on the 21st. Its great! Lots of information and you can ask all the questions you want. Don't be shy. I wasn't. lol! Also get used to this "Protein, Protein, Protein." Thats the key. Before and after surgery. But you will learn all that later. Just a heads up.
Dr. Sabback is a very nice Christian man. He smiles alot. Guess its best to have someone like that when you are going to let them cut you open and mess with your guts. (sounds creepy but in essence thats what it takes)
All in all....stay positive through all your pre-op visits (alot....pulmonary, gastric lab, med lab, pysch (no big deal)) and a few others. Just get started and don't stop.
Good luck and I hope this was helpful to you.
Remember...the 21st.
Mike
