I have my first appt. in October with Dr. Bryne. Just wondering what to expect that day because it's on a Thursday. I was told to be prepared to stay all day for other evaluations or something. I don't even know if my insurance will cover everything yet or not. Has anyone had experience with MUSC Options (Companion)? If so, please let me know. I think I will be approved because of comorbidities, but I don't know. Am 5'6 and 230, and had a mild heart attack five years ago, pulmonary problems, sleep apnea, mild asthma, diabetus, etc. I'm just sick and tired of being so TIRED all the time! If any of you know anything about Dr. Bryne and his hospital, please let me know. Am wondering how long I will have to wait on everything. Thanks!

The first appt. I had with Dr. Byrne was March 11 of theis year. I was there all day (about 6 hours) . Some peaople have gotten out in three hours. He is the absolute best surgeon you could have do the surgery. He used to be a trauma surgeon and has done hundreds of these surgeries. Make sure they send you the packet to fill out for your first appt. I had the surgery on June 22nd. BC/BS is my insurance co.. If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail [email protected] Take care, Jacquie Jones

Just a bit of info I just received, I was switching to MUSC Options with an effective date of January 1, 2005 and was just advised that as of January 1, 2005 MUSC Options will no longer cover WLS. In fact, the only plans I know of that will are Etna and Mail Handlers. You might want to check into this information. I call MUSC Options twice to make sure and both times I was told they would no longer cover it.

Thanks so much to all of you for responding to my questions. Do you think I will be covered under MUSC Options as long as I have surgery PRIOR to January 1st, 2005? I used to have Healthsource (now Cigna), but changed companies when I was told that this surgery was not covered by them. Somebody recently told me that MUSC Options covered this surgery 100%. I knew that sounded too good to be true! Any info would be appreciated.....thanks again!
