Is there one? If so, where and when does it meet? I am trying to get organized for my September 1st surgery at MUSC.

There is a support group meeting the third Saturday of every month at 10:00 am at Trident Regional Medical Center across from Charleston Souther University. Hope to see you there. Denise

Thanks for the info, Denise!! Is it open to all, or just Dr. Sabback's patients? And how are things going with you and your recovery? Did you have lap or open? Any hints for us who are just about to have surgery? Any food/shakes that are great or awful? I am really getting anxious, and have so many questions...sorry!

The support group is open to anyone considering or has had any type of gastric bypass surgery. I had an open rny and am doing well. I had my surgery on 4/5 and am down 77.5 pounds as of today. I haven't had any major complications after surgery. I was having a problem with liquids gurgling and foods getting stuck but I had an endosopy where the doctor dilated the opening to my stomach and I have been fine ever since. If you are about to have surgery, you need to realize that this is only a tool and not a cure all! You still have to watch what you eat and how much you eat. My only real hint is when packing to go to the hospital, take only the basics. I bought 2 nightgowns to wear after my surgery but wore the hospital gowns. They were so much more comfortable and easier to wear with drain tubes and IV. I also wore a knit housedress going home that was very comfortable. I think wearing something with no waistband was a big help, too. I took books and magazines to read but could'nt have cared less about them after surgery. I drink Unjury protein shakes only. I have never really tried any others because I tried Unjury first and really liked it. It comes in chocolate, vanilla and unflavored. I have a hard time drinking anything sweet and the Unjury powders are just sweet enough for me. If you have any other questions, let me know. I'm usually a great lurker but will answer any questions. Thanks for the quick response, Denise! And many congratulations on your lost 77.5 lbs!! That is just super!! Hope you continue to have such great results. I got samples from Unjury, and so far have only used the unflavored one mixed in instant potatoes...it did great! Good hints about the gowns and wearing something home without a waist! I guess I will be too dopey to read anything..or sleeping...or walking down the hall! Wesie, 34 more days and counting down
