I didn't Dr.Givens told me that he only recommened it for his patients with a BMI of 45 and higher, but if you wont it you can have it put in. Dr.Givens puts everyone on Coumadin(blood thinner) so I think that was enough for me plus I have been active and walking alot since my surgery. Angela

Thanks Angela. I was just a little worried about that. I am assured that he knows what is best for me too. Thanks again. I hope that I do as well as you did. Debbie 250/???/???

hi deborah, i had a filter put in by dr, givens also. it is do for a person that has a higher bmi. or if they or a family member has had problems with blood clots or prblem with the circulation in the legs. i had my filter put in on may 27th and i had surgery on june 8th. putting in the filter is very easy. no pain at all. a little uncomfortable with iv's and shots. but nothing else. you go home after words. i had very little pain. you will be awake but they give you happy "i dont care meds or something" you may feel a little pushing or pullling. everyone at the hospital is great. when they shot the die in you , to see if it is placed right, you feel a little warmth and you think you have wet your pants. they tell you every thing they do. not a bad time at all. i hope this helps and good luck. debra
