Help!!! root Canal or Pull the tooth!!!

I need your advice, I went to the dentist today b/c of a small toothache, and it turns out she says I need a root canal or the tooth needs to be pulled, My surgery(Lap Rny) is only 2 weeks and 2 days away!!! The specialist that would do the root canal cant do it until next week, or my dentist could pull it this week. I just really wont this over with real quick so that I can be ready for my surgery!! I am worried about having a root canal this close to my surgey, Any advice??? Thanks, Angela

Angela, First off, I would consult your surgeon to see what he thinks. You do not want to comprmise your surgery. But in my opinion with only 2 weeks left, I would opt for the root canal. I have had a root canal and a tooth pulled. It takes a while for the hole to heal when a tooth is pulled. I do not know if the open hole would comprimse you. A root canal is more pricey and there is also the cost of the cap that eventually goes over the tooth. In the end it is your decision and I would consult your surgeon to make absolutely sure what is okay. Best of luck in deciding!!!!!! Leigh Ann

Thanks for your post, I am going to see the root canal Dr.this Friday and let him evaluate it and see what he thinks. I did call my Rny's Dr. office and spoke to my Dr.s nurse to make sure it would be ok with my surgery so close. She said any dental work or pain med. would be fine, plus I told her my dentist had me on an antibiotic and she said that would be fine too. I just have to take the meds. with me to my pre-op work at the hospital next week. I was so worried this was going to mess up my surgery date.
