I am 33 yrs old and my BMI is definately within the limits to be covered. My concern is "comorbidities". I have a history of anxiety (panic attacks) and heel spurs (so painful it is difficult to walk). My MD is sending me for a sleep apnea test, which would qualify me, but I am thinking I don't have this. He said 95% of all patients that are overweight do have this. My problem (for lack of a better word) is there is no heart, blood pressure, diabetes, etc to put in the comorbidity category. I am trying to find out if anyone got covered that had other problems that are not defined in this list?

Marsha, I did not have sleep apnea, heart problems, or diabetes. I had my own set of co-morbidities though. There is a laundry list of co-morbities out there (i.e. incontinence, anxiety, depression, weight-barring pain, GERD, certain cancers, hypertension, high cholesterol, fatty liver, etc). Each place that approves uses different criteria so, I can not tell you what medicaid standards are. Call them and ask -- hopefully someone else reading this used your type plan and can give you more information. I wish you the best in your journey. Please keep us updated! Leigh Ann

Horaayy! Thank you all for the posts. But, I went for my sleep study night before last and too bad...I have sleep apnea! That should make it a little easier. The good news is it is weight related. Now, I only have my Psych eval and bladder ultrasound left to do. Got my bloodwork and my EKG done today at my PCP. She is writing the letter to clear me. I actually met with Dr. Sabback last year. He was no longer doing lyproscopicly, so I moved on in my research. I am self-employed so I need to get back to work asap. So, I have went with Dr. Rowitz in Anderson. They have been wonderful! They have a Physicians Assistant who is great; Dr. R has a wonderful bedside manner; and everyone I have talked to there has been great. My uncle went with me to the seminar I had to go to before I went to the consultation appointment. He spent hours explaining it all and had a great Power Point with his stat and national stats on there. He was quite informative. I was very pleased. My uncle was also considering it and went to see Dr. Sabback before. They didn't click either. But, different strokes for different folks. After he went with me he went to his consultation with Dr. Byrnes. He said they were not as informative and was glad he went with me. He doesn't think they will be as "caring" and hold-your-hand type of people; but he is confident (and I am as well) that he is a good surgeon. He has done about 600+ surgeries. Now that's a lotta people! Anyway, thanks for the info. I am so miserable. I can't wait to move over to the other side........
