Well I'm nearing the end of a long pre-surgery journey and just when I thought I was done another bump in the road. I'm having surgery in ATL with DR. Smith and he said my insur. requires a nutrition consult. I have BCBS state health plan. Does anyone know of a dietitian in Chas. area that does this type of consult?

Hi! I too have BCBS State Plan of SC. I wasn't ever told that they require a nutrition consult. The only things I was required was a pschy. evaluation, a letter of refferal from my PCP, documented diet history, and the letter of medical need which Dr.Givens, my surgeon, wrote. after everything was sent in I got an approval in 3 days!!! Most surgeons wont you to meet with a nutritionist that knows their plan. I had to attend a 4 hr. pre-op class last week where the nutritionist went over our meal plan for after surgery with us. She worked only with Dr.Strickland and Dr.Givens patients so she knows exactly what we can and cannot eat. I hope this helped. Angela

Thank you for the info. I will call my surgeon's office and tell them. I don't mind having a nutrition consult, but my main goal now is to get my insurance approval and I don't wan tot have to hold up that process. Thanks again Cassandra
