Dr. Bour's patients

Hey. I'm in the process of gathering info on Lap RNY. I'm almost positive I'll be approved thru my husbands insurance... they as much as told me so. HOWEVER, it's my understanding that there is a requirement of cash up front to cover what insurance won't. I was wondering if any of Dr. Bour's patients could tell me how much. I have the seminar I'm going to tonight, but don't know what all they will cover. I'm 25, 350 lbs, and 5'9. I desperately need this surgery due to a blood clotting disorder. Weight exacerbates the condition. Anyway, I need to know how much is needed up front so I can start saving. Any info on this Dr. and the procedure will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Leah, I'm in Doctor Bour's program. They require and upfront fee of (brace yourself)>>> $2500.00 to cover your *behavior, *nutrition and *support groups. This is the 1st Step and there's no way around it. This money is reimbursed to you by your insurance company with each *session. This is to insure you'll follow the program and not take off after your surgery. I think he had a pay as you go plan initially, and his patients would skip the support sessions, which he feels is imperative to your long term success. If you have any other questions-please feel free to email me. Sincerely, Roxane

Hi Roxane: It doesn't hurt to look around and assess all your options. Dr. Rowitz in Anderson, SC also does the Lap RNY. He doesn't require the $2500 up front. At least attend one of his info sessions to see what you think. I am scheduled for the lap RNY with Dr Rowitz on 3/22/04. Good luck whatever you decide. Marolyn

Hi Marolyn, I'm committed to this program. If for some reason I would decide to go elsewhere at this point, I would be charged an administrative fee of $650.00 (from the $2500.00). I'll have follow up support for a couple of years-which I'm sure I'll need. One of the things that impressed me about this program, other than Dr. Bour's good reputation, is the in-house behavorist and nutitionist that work with us. Thanks for the option. Good Luck and God speed-your surgery date is almost here! Roxane

Dr. Bour is worth every penny of the money to do your surgery. He did lap band surgery on me on 1-15-03 and I have lost 120 pounds to date. There is not a finer doctor in this area of the country than Dr. Bour. He cares so much for his patients and has been so supportive of me. My life is so different now and I owe him so very much. Stick with him, you won't regret it. I had BCBS State plan and it paid for everything but the 2500 and the 1500 deductible I had. I would have borrowed the money if needed to have the surgery. Good luck with your surgery...
