:help:I need help
I am in desperation for help. I need to find a bariatric surgeon in SC (I will travel anywhere in SC) that does High risk cases (I am an amputee in a wheelchair who has had blood clots in the past) and that also accepts medicaid. Can anyone please help ? I have already been to Dr. Givens in Lexington and he declined me and also Dr. Soares in Hilton Head declined me (said he wouldnt do it since I cant walk). So does anyone out here in SC have a DR that they can ask about this for me ?? PLEASE !!
Hi Denise,
My suggestion would try Dr. Karl Byrne at MUSC in Charleston. He is one of the top surgeons in the country and MUSC is listed in the top 10% of the best medical facilities for this type of surgery. He did my bypass last May, and I had no complications. If he turns you down then you can rest assured you should not have a bypass done.
Good luck!

Hi Denise:
I would recommend Dr. Eric Bour at Bariatric Solutions in Greenville, SC.
His info in on this web site under surgeons.
Dr. Bour has a whole program that takes some time to get through. If your anxious to have the surgery without months of waiting, check with Dr. Van Slooten at Family Surgery Ctr. in Greer, SC. He has his own team that works with him in the OR at Allen Bennet Hospital. They take all kinds of insurance and are willing to battle the insurance company for you.
Good Luck and let us hear back from you.

Hi Roxane -
Does Dr. Van Slooten perform WLS? I currently have an informational session w/ Dr. Bour on Monday, I'm just in the beginning states of this and am still trying to find out more information.
Dr. Van Slooten performed my gall bladder operation last September, but I didn't know he had any experience with WLS. Have you done any research on any surgeries he's performed, success rates, etc?
Just curious!
Thanks,
Val
