Please Help
Hello Everyone. I was just approved last week for the open RNY.. I never expected to be approved. I have heard the good and the bad on this. I myself want this surgery very badly because of several health problems. I have read up on some information on it. Could anyone please give me some insight and input on this.. Maybe those who have already had it.. Paul Ross out of Spartanburg, SC is the one who will be doing my surgery. So far everything I have read about him has been excellent. He was very informative when we had our consultation before the approval proces.. So I am looking forward to any insight anyone has.
Do more research! How many procedures has he performed? He should have at least 500 procedures under his belt..so to speak...or I would go else where. Also what is his mortality rate? How many people have died under his care? Check out the facility rates as well. Are they experienced in Bypass patients/surgeries?
Good luck!

I agree w/ Lisa's comments. This is such a serious surgery--do your research. Is a laproscopic procedure available--it's much less invasive and recuperation time is reduced. I had surgery 2/10 in Atlanta w/ no complications and am convinced that surgeon skill and experience is critical to a good outcome.
