I called his office on Monday and was told that he was no longer doing bariatric surgery. I have just recently started researching and was trying to get some info.
Dr. Schriver has not bailed, I think he is just getting tired of the unnessacary bad comments. He is an awesome Dr. He is not doing BS at this time. He's still trying to get the adminastration to back him more. As soon as that happens he will be back on track. He has given me a whole new lease on life. Thank You for that Dr. Schriver. At the support group meeting Thursday night he still has plenty of patients that truly support him.. We all say we would do it over again in a heart beat. You know from the beginning they are risk involved. You take a risk getting in a car riding up the road. Dr. Schriver is wonderful.....
AMEN Angie!!! I too am concerned with all the negativity towards a wonderful, caring surgeon! Not only did HE tell me all the things that could go wrong but the message was also reiterated through Linda during my psych evaluation. I went in with my eyes wide open and thank GOD every day for him and his staff. I would go tomorrow and do it again with no one else but Dr. Schriver. I live in Columbia but come he!! or high water I will be at the support meeting in November. Thank You Dr. Schriver. I am on my way to a happier, healthier life. Carol
I, too, have been concerned about the overly negative comments coming from a patient who went seeking someone to do this surgery, was well-advised about the risks at every evaluation, had the surgery, is recovering, and because she experienced some unanticipated complications, wants to slander a very talented surgeon. Dr. Schriver does NOT solicit for patients...patients seek him out because of his skill and professional reputation. Anyone seeking a caring, talented surgeon should disregard the negative comments found on this forum and, once Dr. Schriver's program is up and running again, meet him yourself before making any decision.
Strange?? Although this physician may well have successful cases and hence loyal patient followers. I feel all physician's in the upstate area of South Carolina are way too inexperienced for the gastric bypass surgery. I have heard of many complications of upstate doctors with their patients and sadly also deaths. Many of these doctors have started down the path to good and well intended treatment and surgical plans. They have a long way to go. Some doctors in the upstate area seem to have hopped on the GBP mill and have let their guard down putting too many patients into their surgery schedule and terrible mistakes have happened.
Also staff infection is also at an alarming rate in all hopsitals in the upstate. Think and do your research carefully. and I advise all to go else where to have Gastric Bypass done!
You know I don't think it has anything to do with what part of any state you live in. It has to do with your personal reseach on the type of by-pass you choose and the doctor who performs it , Then you must reseach his past work, patient comments and concerns, Then look at the hospital that he operates in, Read comments on the hospital care from past patients and last of all talk to the surgeon himself, this should tell you if you feel comfortable to start the ball rolling with him. If not do continue to look elsewhere. Also be aware that the amount of surgeries
he has performed are on record and years that he has performed them.
Honey, you can find a bad surgeon anywhere, not just south carolina.
I would like to know how you came to your conclusion on upstate south Carolina....? Please clue us in on the not so bright doctore you refer too.
