Hello! I am so new here but I am wanting the surgery. I am 5 feet and 285 pounds. I see all these other people here that weigh less than I and getting this. So I know I will be able to. I just received disability for fibromyalgia and will be on Medicare. I was told 'they will pay'. I decided several months ago I was getting it but in a months time here in Greenville SC , four women died after the surgery. I haven't picked a doctor as of yet and will do alot of research. Nice to be here. Dawn

Hi Dawn, I live in the upstate and did a ton of research picking a doctor, and it sure paid off. No complications...I am 5 months post op and have lost 70 pounds. The doctor I chose was Dr Karl Byrne at MUSC in Charleston. He is in the top ten doctors in the US. He has been doing this surgery for a long time...and has lost one patient. Take my advise, from a person who had surgery in the upstate and had a bad experience with a gallbladder surgery that went wrong. Which eventually lead me to have the gastric bypass to correct what when wrong with the gallbladder surgery. DO NOT GO TO ANY DOCTOR IN THE UPSTATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA. They are too new to doing this surgery and are still apt to make many mistakes. Remember it's your life they have in their hands. Go with experience and check out how many surgeries they have performed. Do not go to a doctor having done anything less than 500 bypasses. Anyway, Good Luck! Lisa Hopkins
