I give up

A couple of months ago I found out that my PCP would not do the 6 month dr supervised diet that my insurance requires so I decided to find another doctor.  My insurance is First Choice by Selct Health (Medicaid).  So I called them up and had them send out the provider directory.  I have called every name in Greenville and Spartanburg that they have in that book and all I have gotten is "Sorry we are not accepting new patients at this time" or "We don't accept that insurance."  I don't know what else to do and I have basically given up.  If anyone knows of anyone who can help me, I would appreciate it.  Thanks.

I haven't had that problem  & I have First Choice. If I may ask, why do you have to go through the 6th month diet? Please, if you have your heart set on this surgery, by all means DO NOT give up!! I will also be asking around for you!

I was told that's what the insurance requires.

Ok, I just got off the phone with First Choice and was told by them that they do not have a 6 month diet requirement.  I was told that if it is deemed medically necessary it will be approved.  I know that my current PCP has recommeded it and will give me a referral so I guess I will call Dr. Ross' office and find out exactly what I need to do.

See what not giving up does? I am happy that you got the nudge to check again. I have not had surgery yet but I am hoping to.  I have been vehement about seeing all that I need to do so I don't run into any road blocks when my info is submitted for approval.  Don't you just love this board! LOL

Good luck lady and I hope to see you on the 'losers' table!

Thank you and you are right.  I decided that it was time for me to start really taking reponsibility for my health and do what I need to to.

Good luck to you too!!

I also have first choice by select health and was told that they are one of the best insurance company's to deal with there is no 6 months supervised diet and you only see the nutritionist once that was a plus for me. :)  I am just now starting my process of seeing different Dr. they sent me to for my clearance letters. There are a few surgeons that accept this insurance. I go to Palmetto Health Baptist in Columbia SC Dr. *****ett and Dr. Tribble but they only accept like 10 medicaid patients a year I was one of the lucky ones they told me to call back at the first of the year and that I did. Dr. Balder in Conway SC also accepts but don't know how many a year. Please don't give up this is a process just do your homework like I did.
Good luck  if you have any questions send me a message....

Try Dr. Heider in Mooresville, NC just above Charlotte.  He is at the Lake Norman Reginal Hospital and is great.
