My insurance company is now saying that bariatric surgery is not a coverd bennifit after origionally sayin it was covered. They stated that the employer has elected not to cover any type of bariatric surgery, or activity that results from it even with a medical nessacery. I am now shopping for new insurance in SC. I will have to pay for the insurance on my own so If any of you pay for your own (without company help) Please let me know.

So sorry to hear that, I know it must be heartbreaking to get that kind of news after having your hopes up. I don't know much about private insurance other than most of them are expensive and they can be  hard to get if you have any medical problems at all, including obesity. A good friend of mine tried to get some and was turned down because of being obese. I had to have cobra when I switched jobs and was paying over $900. 00 a month for it.  It's horrible  that companies don't want their  insurance to cover bariatric surgery, they would rather pay out the azz for other illnesses due to being overweight than add it to their policy. I wish you the best of luck in finding a way to get your surgery.

I have been helping my in laws look for coverage for the last few weeks and it is very expensive and we haven't found one that covers the surgery in SC.  As for the employer's not opting for the coverage in the policies that's what happen to us. They get a lower premium if it is not included. I think it really stinks and I wish you the best and will keep you in my prayers.
