Psych Eval - Medicaid?

Hi,

I desperately need some help. I went yesterday for the initial visit in Spartanburg, for Dr. Ross. The next step is to set up a Psych Eval, but I can't afford the $250 they're asking. It's a little ridiculous, as this would't have been a problem just 6 months ago, but my wife was laid off and is only working a part time job, where they only call her when somoene lays out. So she really only works maybe a week out of the month. I'm on disability and all of my income goes to our mortgage and other bills. If anyone knows of a psych in the upstate that takes medicaid for a psych eval, I would greatly appreciate it. Otherwise, it looks like it'll be next year some time after we get our taxes before I can get this surgery that I desperately need.

Thanks

Oh well. Guess I may as well forget about the surgery now.

I don't know of any place that takes medicaid  but don't give up.....it sometimes takes a few days to get a answer on here.  call around to some of the hospitals they can give you a list of psyc in the area and you can call to see if they take medicaid.  but don't give up so easy....  the surgery is the best thing i've ever done for myself.

I am not sure of the resources for a Spartenburg county resident usually each county has psychiatric services that many times are prorated to financial ability.  In Greenville mental health, the clinic is located off Dumbar street and 241-1040 and maybe they could give you names of places in Spartanburg that could help.

You would need is to meet with them and discuss the issue.  Then they would have to give you a letter to give to the surgon to say you are menatally ok to undergo the process.  However, I would see if that 250 includes lifetime visit for their services post-up because if so you would be better off waiting until you can obtain the money and pay it, because most of us have issues we need help with following surgery.

Hope this helps

Have you tried calling around to psychologists offices to see if they accept medicaid? I really don't know much about medicaid but I do know that when it comes to WLS you often have to take matters into your own hands you can't wait for someone else to do these things for you. I was fortunate enough to have a surgeon with an in office psych so I never had to deal with this but I am sure that if you do some calling around in Spartanburg and Greenville that surely you'll find someone that will accept your insurance.

Thanks for the replies! I haven't completely given up hope yet. If all elese fails, I'll just have to get the psych eval done next year, after we get our taxes. I'm just really hoping to get this done sooner, rather than later. My biggest problem is, I have a degenterave spinal diseaseand have had to have three back surgeries in the past three years. Needless to say, this has limited my activity ability, and as such, I've gained a lot of weight. Now, the weight is causing even more problems with my back, so I'm in constant pain. All I want to do is have the surgery so I can lose the weight, ease the pain on my back and finally go back to work, but it seems like every time I try to get this done, I wind up with one roadblock after another. It gets a little depressing after a while.
