5 days post-op and have some questions
HI there! I had my surgery on Tuesday and am feeling great. Just have some questions for ya.
1. Did anyone get thrush post-op? I think that's what I have develeped this am and will call my doctors office tomorrow about it, just wondering if this was a common problem.
2. What is the minimum of liquids you were able to get in post-op? I feel I may not be getting enough even though my liquids intake is unlimited. I just feel so full and am having a hard time pushing it.
3. What was the minimum of protein you were able to get in post-op? I getting at least 40mg daily and going to try to increase that to 60 today with the help of protein bullets.

1) Nope, but I've seen it reported on the boards.
2) Not sure, but it wasn't much. Take a sip every minute or so, and you'll get it in.
3) Again, not sure, but you sound on track. You're being conscious of what you're intaking, which is a plus. Just try to increase little by little and make wise choices in foods and supplements, and you'll get it all in eventually. Baby steps.
Don't forget your vitamins!

1.) No, I don't remember getting it. I've heard some other people have had it though. I'm sure its not a problem.
2.) I think when I first started drinking the liquids at home, I was only able to get 48oz in a day. As time went on, I was able to do more. The shakes and soups kinda helped but the shakes always made me sick, so I stopped making them. Even the protein shakes were making me sick. I ended up drinking the protein waters from Special K to get the fluid and protein.
3.) Let's not even talk about the protein! I had such a hard time with that. My #1 food for protein was chicken. Chicken salad, soup, mixed with pasta, rice; I know the starch was supposed to be last, but that seemed to be the only way I could get the protein.
I'm sorry this wasn't much help, but I'm still going through right along with you.

Hello,
I have read that a few folks on the board have had thrush - I did not. You do need to call the doc.
I was instructed to get in 60 oz of fluid daily. It was really hard! SF popsicles helped me so much, although they are not much volume (I think 60cc)? Anyway, my NUT likes to tell us to keep fluid with you and sip,sip,sip.......as far as protein, I also struggled. I felt so full like you describe. When I went for transiiton nutrition class at four weeks, I was way behind most of the folks there. I was not getting in near enough.
The bullets also helped me. I just sipped them straight to avoid adding to the volume.
Just remember, it gets so much easier as time passes. The first few weeks were the worst. It's all uphill from now! Take care and congrats!!
