We have support groups meeting in Bariatric Solution, dr Bour office. Not sure if it is open for patients of other docs.  call to make sure.

Check the dates for "support groups" post op.

yeah....not to be negative but those meetings at Dr. Bour's office are definitely "private".  I switched doctors because I couldn't come up with the whole $2000 as fast as I wanted the surgery and when I asked for a refund of part of the $1000 I did pay, all my money had been eaten up with "meeting attendance".  I was a bit ticked but should have expected it.  I mean, I knew that's a little bit of what the "program fee" was for but I didn't realize they'd be taking out chunks of money per meeting.  I thought it was more for the dieticians and psychologist than for meeting attendance.

There is a support group at Sptbg Regional once a month.  I can check for you and see if it's open to the public.  I know it's not Greenville but it's not terribly far.

Thanks. And I understand.  I am a patient of dr Bour, and I paid the 2000. (ouch).  The way I saw it, now I have support meetings, nut , and psych for life (or as long as they have the center open.  One visit to a terapist is $100 + these days.  so....  And our support meetings are great.  At least once a month we have with the psych, so this is like a group terapy, with most people posituive and very supportive.  I know that the $2000 is a lot (and I had to put that on my CC in instalments)

They is also a clinck in anderson, but I am not sure if they have support groups and if they are open to public.

I may have a private meeting in my house, but it would be mostly people 2-3 months post op.  You can meet some of "my" group, and see if you may get a friend.

I too would like to find a support group in the Greenville area.  My surgery is coming up in a couple of weeks and it will be done in Columbia, so I don't have any local support group.  Let me know if anyone knows of one.  A friend of mine checked with Bariatric Solutions in Greenville and was told that their support meetings was not open to the public.

Cari, you know we use to have a support group that met outside of Dr. Bours inhouse meetings, but, it seems everyone has disappeared over the past several months. I don't see or hear from any of the old crowd, so I assume they have other things going on in their lives and can't get together anymore, or I just don't get invited anymore, lol. Anyway, Bariatric Solutions is only for patients of Dr. Bours, that is part of what his fee covered. I haven't been to a meeting in a couple of months because it seemed as though everytime I went it was the same old thing over and over, plus since they changed the meetings to Tuesdays I have a harder time getting  to go to them. I'm sure I will catch hell  on the next appointment I have with the dr. for my check-up for not attending.  If you hear from any of the old gang let me know and I will do the same, the farther out we get the more support we need and it just doesn't seem to be there anymore.

Take Care!

Just FYI, the support group meetings for Spartanburg Regional's Surgical Weight Loss Center are open to the public.  I can post dates if anyone is interested in attending.

Since it is also a Bariatric Center of Excllence, there must be a medical person present to lead each meeting.  There is a set curriculum and handouts so you get great support.

I would like to have the hours, not sure how often I could attend, but it would be closer for me.
