Family and I are looking to move to South Carolina.  I work in health care and my husband  is in IT.  We have two kids under ten so a good school is a must.  We are going to rent at first.

So what are some good and bad places to live.

Our dream wld be to live close to work/school and hospitals.

We are considering Charlotte I would love your feedback.  Also feel free to send me a message on the backline.

Thanks
Candace

Charlotte is actually in NC, but if you are looking for some where in SC. Do you like the mountain area or beach area?

I have worked in the three biggest cities in health care...Columbia, Charleston and Greenville. Do you like large teaching hospitals, private hospitals???

I think Greenville lends itself to IT opportunities more so then Charleston (or at least maybe I am just more aware of them here).

I dont have Children, but I know people who do and areas they like for school districts.

Yes !!! NC but we are not opposed to SC. Yes large teaching hospitals are fine I've worked in both.  I will look into Greensville.  It's just so hard to pinpoint which location is good/bad.     Any advice sussgestions you have I appreiciate.       Thanks.

Columbia has some good opportunities in those fields as well..and is sort of in the middle of the state (between mountains and beach) and the schools are good, too.

Can I ask what type of what you are looking for that might help me make it easier for you.

In Greenville area if you live on the northside of town you can have options of:
Bon Secours Saint Francis Hospital System (Catholic non profit)
Greenville Hospital System (teaching hospital)
or even Spartenburg Reginonal (large hospital as well)
if you like rehab there is Regional that is housed on 4th floor at Saint Francis but it is a seperate facility. (??I think private, but it is a small facility not sure)

If you live on the side of town (Easly/Piedmont)

Besides the Greenville options you can have the option of
Anderson Medical Center (they have two facilities)
Baptist Easly (sister of a facility in Columbia, smaller and non teachig)

If you decide more the beaches...just know if you are a health care provider and licensured that if a hurricane comes you are required to do what they say or be charged with abandoment. There are many facilities there as well: MUSC (Medical university of SC...large teaching) Roper health System with its sister hospital Saint Francis...Tricount (Private) East Cooper ...mmmm is all i can think of

Columbia has
Lexinton Medical Center (nonteaching med size facility)
Richland Memorial (teaching hospital)
Baptitist Medical hospital (sister of the Easly facility)
Providence hospital (Private known for heart cae in the area)
Is all I can thin of right now but that would get you started, most are on the internet. If you want personal experience, You can email me at [email protected] if you like

I know I'm a little behind in seeing your post, but I sitll wanted to put my 2 cents in - I live just outside of Charleston and recommend it as a great place to live & raise kids.  There's MUSC & St Francis here that are always looking for great people (my stepdaughter is a CNA, going for her RN) and there's multiple industries and companies looking for IT.  The schools run the whole gamut - fair to great public & really good private - whatever you're looking for.  Summerville is a great "young family" town now and not far from Charleston & North Charleston where the most job are.

Good luck & keep us posted!
