I will be attending a navy reunion with my Dad in Sept, the hotel is the Ramada near the airport. Is this in an area that is OK? Also could you please recommend restarants and attactions that may interest my parents, he is 79 and in good health, able to enjoy historic tours and such. Thanks for your help.

Yep that's a safe part of town. Close to the outlets.
What kind of food do your parents enjoy? Seafood I would suggest Hyman's or Hank's downtown Charleston. A W Shuck's is also really good.
You could take him on a carriage tour of downtown Charleston, Fort Sumter, to see the Hunley. The Air Force base and Navy base both offer discount tickets for a lot of things to do around the Charleston area.
Hope y'all enjoy your stay in Charleston and your dad meets up with some old friends from his ship.
I agree, the Ramada is in a safe area. You can't really walk anywhere from there except if you are going to the coliseum or the outlet malls. Everything downtown is centrally located. Once you get there we have a good trolly system. The new aquarium is beautiful (and cool in the summertime). I like Sticky Fingers downtown or Justine's. Your dad would probably enjoy the Yorktown which has a water shuttle to Patriot's Point or the Hunley. (That's a little harder to get to.) There's a nice park on the old navy base. Welcome to Charleston. Hope you have a terrific time. Oh,our school sells a two for one coupon book for restaurants and attractions. Message me for more information if you are interested.
